Location: Mississauga - 825 Req ID: 29708 Hourly rate: $26.77 ​Scope The Rod Mill Coiling and Degassing Operator shall safely and efficiently operate the equipment to roll aluminum bar to the desired rod size and coil continuously as required. They will report to the Rod Mill Supervisor and/or Rod Mill Manager.Responsibilities The Rod Mill B Operator shall be responsible for the safe, efficient operation and routine maintenance of the equipment used to roll bar to the desired rod size and the continuous coiling of this rod. This includes total responsibility for meeting all quality requirements relative to specifications for Jumbo coil surface condition, coiling, and physical testing. They will perform various process checks prior to start-up of casting as well as routine preventive maintenance of the equipment. They will identify each coil with the alloy type, operator name, temper designation, weight, cast number, coil number, diameter, and date manufactured. The operator will strap each coil, visually inspect, and record the quality of each coil. They will also perform and record physical tests on each coil. They will maintain proper housekeeping to provide a clean area to work. The operator will remove as required the amount of rod so that there are no catching tooth marks visible. Perform other duties as assigned by the Rod Mill Supervisor and/or Rod Mill Manager. The Rod Mill B Operator shall also be responsible for Degassing operations. This includes operating and maintaining various pieces of equipment prior to the start of the casting operation. They will perform various process checks prior to start-up. The operator will be required to take molten metal samples and analyze them using a Spectrometer. The operator will maintain housekeeping of his entire work area. They will prepare launders, filter and knuckle joints as required prior to the start of the cast and/or prior to switching furnaces. They will also perform other duties as assigned by the Production Supervisor and/or Rod Mill Manager including draining, filling, and cleaning of the degasser. Equipment Must be proficient and understand the use of the following equipment: Thermo-couple Micrometer Vernier Tensile testing machine PLC controls for both Rolling and Coiling Instrumentation for control of roundness Spectrometer Metal Sampling tools Procedures Must be familiar with and understand all specifications and procedures required for rolling to size and coiling of continuous cast Aluminum alloys. Skills Must have a basic education with the ability to understand specifications and procedures. Must be physically fit and mechanically inclined. They must be a “Certified Counterbalance Forklift Operator." Training The Production Supervisor, Metallurgist, and/or Rod Mill Manager in conjunction with other experienced personnel shall train the Degasser Operator.
