Job Title: Technical Project Manager, Energy Storage Systems Location: Burnaby, BC Type: Full-time Reports to: Canada R&D Center NPI Manager Overview We are seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager to lead the development and industrialization of utility-scale and C&I battery energy storage products. This role owns project execution from concept through mass production. It coordinates mechanical, electrical, firmware, manufacturing, supply chain, and certification teams to deliver products on time, on budget, and to quality targets. The ideal candidate combines strong project leadership with enough hands-on mechanical and electrical depth to engage credibly in design reviews, supplier discussions, and technical trade-off decisions. Responsibilities Lead cross-functional BESS product development projects (cabinets, containers, and core subsystems such as BMS, PCS, and EMS) through a stage-gate NPI process, from concept and prototype through validation, pilot build, and mass production. Build and maintain integrated project plans covering schedule, budget, resources, deliverables, and gate criteria. Track progress and escalate risks early. Drive technical decision-making across disciplines. Facilitate design reviews and help resolve mechanical, electrical, and thermal integration issues and trade-offs between cost, performance, schedule, and manufacturability. Own supplier qualification for key components and contract manufacturers. This includes technical evaluation, capability audits, sample and first-article approval (FAI), PPAP/APQP-style deliverables, and ongoing quality performance tracking. Establish and improve engineering processes, including design review gates, DFMEA/PFMEA, engineering change management (ECR/ECN/ECO), BOM and configuration control, and documentation standards aligned with the company QMS (ISO 9001). Coordinate certification and compliance activities (UL 9540, UL 9540A, UL 1973, UL 1741, NFPA 855, and related standards) with test labs, engineering teams, and external consultants. Plan and oversee validation and reliability testing (environmental, thermal, vibration, electrical safety) and track issue closure through production readiness. Work with manufacturing and supply chain teams on DFM/DFA, line readiness, cost reduction, and supply chain localization in North America. Serve as the main technical point of contact for internal stakeholders and, where needed, customers and partners. Provide clear status reporting to management. Coordinate with global R&D and manufacturing teams across time zones. Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. 3+ years of engineering experience in energy storage, EV, power electronics, or industrial equipment. Direct experience with utility-scale and/or C&I BESS product development is strongly preferred. Proven track record taking hardware products from prototype to mass production through a structured NPI process. Hands-on experience with supplier qualification, supplier audits, and managing contract manufacturers. Solid working knowledge of both mechanical (enclosures, structures, thermal management, air/liquid cooling) and electrical (HV DC architecture, battery modules and racks, PCS, BMS, wiring and protection) aspects of energy storage systems. Familiarity with engineering process frameworks such as stage-gate, APQP, DFMEA, and engineering change control. Experience working within an ISO 9001 quality system. Knowledge of UL/NFPA certification processes for energy storage (UL 9540, UL 9540A, UL 1973, NFPA 855) is an asset. Proficiency with project management and engineering tools (MS Project or equivalent, Jira, PLM/PDM systems). Excellent communication, organization, and cross-functional leadership skills, with the ability to drive accountability without direct authority. PMP or equivalent certification is an asset. Proficiency in Mandarin is an asset for working with global engineering and supply chain teams. Requirements

Requires a bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field, plus at least three years of engineering experience in energy storage, EVs, power electronics, or industrial equipment. Candidates should have hardware NPI experience, supplier and contract manufacturer management skills, working knowledge of BESS mechanical and electrical systems, and familiarity with quality and engineering processes; BESS product development experience is strongly preferred.
