Job details
Keep the Dream Alive. It’s a simple statement that means so much to thousands of LUG Athletes playing in our recreational sports leagues across North America. LUG started as a way for young adults to keep playing the sport they loved in recreational and competitive settings long after minor sports programming ended. From our original roots as a small 6 team hockey league, we have grown into one of the largest adult sports leagues with over 25,000 players across 80 cities. With a focus on creating a strong, competitive, inclusive community, and delivering exceptional experiences both on and off the field of play, LUG is the ticket that students, adults, and alumni need for all of their sport and social needs. About the Role We're looking for a creative, organized university student to join LUG Sports as a Marketing Intern, working as an extension of our sales team. LUG runs city-level Instagram accounts across our markets. Each one should feel like its own league under the LUG umbrella, built on real players, teams, rivalries and moments rather than recycled graphics. Real local content is what gets people to follow, and following is where they start playing. Your focus is lead generation through content. You'll own a portfolio of these accounts from head office. You'll create on-trend content yourself, in front of the camera, and work closely with our content contributors in each city to capture each league's story. Then you'll get that content in front of the right people: growing each account's reach, and handing engaged followers to our BDRs as leads for new players, captains, staff and partners. This is a high-ownership role for someone who lives on social, isn't camera-shy, and wants to see their content turn into real registrations. Responsibilities Own and manage a portfolio of local LUG Instagram accounts, including the content calendar, grid, stories and highlights for each, with deeper focus on priority markets Make each account local by featuring the players, teams, results, venues and campus moments specific to that city, so no two accounts look the same Build strong working relationships with the content contributors in each city — plan content together ahead of game days and key moments, trade ideas, and help them grow as creators over the season Collaborate with contributors to shape what they capture into posts, reels and stories that fit each account’s voice Work alongside the BDRs covering your markets to line content up with registration pushes, and hand off engaged followers, DMs and inbound interest as leads, without turning the accounts into ads Manage community engagement — respond to comments, reshare player content, and spot content moments as they happen in-season Grow reach in each market through local follows, collab posts, reshares and stories, so your content reaches new people rather than the same followers every time Flag local businesses, campus groups and creators that engage with your accounts as partnership leads for the team Track and report performance by account, including follower growth, reach, engagement, and the leads and registrations your content generates Help build and maintain the local-account playbook, including templates, content pillars and tone guidelines, so the system scales as we add markets What You'll Learn This isn't a coffee-run internship. You'll come out of this term with real, transferable skills and a clear sense of what a career in marketing looks like from the ground up. By the end of your placement, you'll have hands-on experience in: Multi-market social strategy — balancing a consistent brand identity with local relevance On-camera content creation — concepting, filming and editing trend-driven short-form video for Instagram and TikTok Audience growth and distribution — getting content in front of the right people in each market and turning engagement into qualified leads Social selling — how content drives leads, and how marketing and sales work together to turn followers into registrations Creative collaboration — building relationships with contributors across multiple cities and developing content together from the ground up Social analytics — reading performance data, tracking leads, and adjusting your approach Cross-functional work with sales, operations and league staff at a fast-growing company You'll work directly alongside our marketing and sales teams, get real feedback on your output, and have a clear line of sight to what a full-time marketing role looks like at a growing company. About You Currently enrolled in a university or college program A strong eye for content — you know the difference between a post that performs and one that just fills the grid Comfortable editing short-form video Comfortable on camera — you want to be the face of the content, not just behind it Highly organized — you can juggle many accounts, partners and deadlines without letting quality slip Familiar with Instagram and TikTok as tools, not just as a user Experience running a club, team, personal or business account, or organizing events and sponsorships, is a plus but not required. Having played organized sports is a bonus Additional Notes We’re a remote-first team and output is more important than facetime, so where you choose to work is up to you — as long as you have internet access, you can work from wherever helps to make you successful, and your family happy. League games typically take place on evenings and weekends, and that’s when the best content happens. This is not your standard 9-5. Working day requirements may shift based on leagues running and the season. Benefits and Compensation $19/hour, 35 hours/week Fast track to Full Time opportunities with LUG HQ Real ownership of live brand accounts and local partnerships in a fast-growing sports organization — not a coffee-run internship. Free participation in LUG Sports Leagues during the work term Free LUG merchandise, partner products, and access to special events. If you are interested in applying for this position, please send your resume and cover letter to hiring@lugsports.com For the Cover Letter, we don’t need anything fancy, just tell us in plain writing why you want to join the LUG Head Office team. Along with your cover letter, pick any LUG city account on Instagram and tell us three things you’d change, then name one local business in that city you’d partner with and what you’d do together. Include links to any accounts or content you’ve created. Only those who include a Cover Letter and this exercise will be considered. NOTE: At LUG, we are building leagues for a diverse world and we need a diverse team to do that successfully. We strongly encourage applications from everyone regardless of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status, physical or mental disability, military service, pregnancy, childbirth and related medical conditions or any other classification protected by federal, provincial and local laws and ordinances. If you need any accommodations or adjustments throughout the interview process and beyond, please let us know. Only those applicants under consideration will be contacted. Please accept our utmost appreciation for your interest.
