About

Current indoor farming grow-media ("soil"), mainly rockwool, is incredibly energy intensive and polluting to produce and recycle making almost as polluting as cement, one of the world’s most carbon intensive materials [1]. Lyrata has created SmartSoil, a grow-media technology with better performance than grodan and is up to 65 times less carbon intensive to produce and recycle [1]. Lyrata has proven this technology by producing crops at scale at their own SmartSoil based farms in the GTA supplying the University of Toronto [2] and Michelin-Star Don Alfonso [3] since 2023. 1. https://youtu.be/SMt_TQqZwOU?si=P1xTgkI70ao7vSoS 2. https://x.com/UofTNews/status/1734619557644378424 3. https://news.engineering.utoronto.ca/with-new-installations-at-casa-loma-and-u-of-t-scarborough-lyrata-offers-fresh-solutions-for-sustainable-urban-farming/
