Job details

About Maratek Maratek Environmental designs and builds solvent recycling and recovery equipment, from standard batch recyclers to engineered fractional distillation and VOC recapture systems. Our customers include printers, coaters, cabinet makers, chemical processors and battery manufacturers across North America and beyond. We design, fabricate and test in our Bolton, Ontario facility. The role You will be one of two mechanical engineers on our team. You report to the VP of Engineering & Manufacturing. You will own the mechanical design of projects from quote through commissioning. You will work closely with our process engineer, controls partners and the shop floor. The work is a mix of repeat builds of our standard models and custom-engineered systems. What you'll do • Design solvent recovery equipment: distillation columns, heat exchangers, condensers, air handling units, skids, frames and piping. • Build 3D models with SolidWorks and produce fabrication drawings, GA drawings and BOMs, and release complete packages to the shop. • Size equipment and prepare layouts and cost estimates for quotes, working with sales. • Review supplier and partner datasheets, drawings and submittals for purchased equipment. • Support fabrication and assembly on the shop floor, and resolve design issues as they come up. • Help supervise shopfloor staff to ensure efficiency on each build and answer any questions that come up during manufacturing • Work with vendors on sourcing key components and negotiate item pricing • Lead factory acceptance testing, and travel to customer sites in Canada and the US for installation, commissioning and troubleshooting when required. • Write operating manuals, datasheets and design documentation. • Improve our standard models for cost, manufacturability and reliability. What you bring • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or beyond • 5–8 years designing process equipment, industrial machinery or skid-mounted systems. • Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks or similar) and the ability to produce clean fabrication drawings. • Working knowledge of heat transfer and fluid flow, and comfort running hand calculations and spreadsheets. • Experience supporting fabrication: you are at ease on a shop floor with welders and fitters. • Willingness to travel to customer sites in Canada and the US, roughly 10–15% of the time, with a valid passport. Nice to have • P.Eng with Professional Engineers Ontario • Experience with distillation, evaporation, solvent recovery or other chemical process equipment. • Experience with equipment for hazardous (classified) locations and NFPA standards. • Experience with preparing and drafting PFDs • Experience working in an ERP system.
