Reporting to the Manager, HR/H&S, you will be the subject matter expert for occupational health and safety, partnering with leaders and employees to promote compliance, reduce risk, and continuously improve workplace safety. This is an ideal opportunity for a safety professional who enjoys balancing hands-on floor presence with strategic program development. You will have the opportunity to influence safety initiatives, support employee well-being, and make a meaningful impact across multiple departments. Key Responsibilities: Embody and promote company’s core values (Integrity, Growth and Resilience). Safety Leadership & Compliance Lead and support compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and applicable regulations. Monitor legislative changes and recommend improvements to programs, policies, and procedures. Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies, including the Ministry of Labour. Workplace Safety Programs Support the development and continuous improvement of Mariposa's Health & Safety Management System. Coordinate workplace inspections, risk assessments, investigations, and corrective actions. Maintain emergency response programs and lead emergency preparedness activities. Employee Training & Engagement Deliver health and safety training to employees and leaders. Coordinate third-party safety training and certifications. Promote safety awareness through toolbox talks, campaigns, and ongoing communication. Support health and safety onboarding for new employees. Claims Management & Return to Work Manage WSIB claims and workplace injury reporting. Coordinate workplace accommodations and return-to-work programs. Partner with leaders to support employee well-being and successful return-to-work outcomes. Committee & Contractor Management Act as Management Co-Chair of the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC). Lead the Chemical Management Team. Ensure contractors and visitors comply with site safety requirements. Review contractor safety plans prior to work commencing. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support operational requirements. Who You Are: Required Qualifications Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field. Minimum three years of occupational health and safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Strong knowledge of Ontario health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements. Excellent communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills. Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independently while building strong partnerships across the organization. Preferred Qualifications CRSP, CRST, or other recognized health and safety designation. JHSC Certification. Experience with WSIB claims management and return-to-work programs. Experience leading workplace inspections, investigations, and risk assessments. Certifications or training related to First Aid, Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, Working at Heights, Lift Trucks, or Elevated Work Platforms.
