Role Description The Urban Planner will work on-site in Vaughan, ON in a full-time capacity, contributing to the planning and design of multi-family and mixed-use residential developments. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing and reviewing planning reports, supporting development applications, and conducting land use, zoning, and policy analysis. The role involves coordinating with internal teams, municipal staff, and external consultants, as well as participating in community engagement activities and public meetings when required. The Urban Planner will help develop planning strategies that align projects with local and regional policies, environmental considerations, and market needs. This position also supports project documentation, timelines, and approvals to ensure developments progress efficiently. Qualifications Strong skills in Urban Planning and Land Use Planning, with experience applying municipal and regional policies to development projects. Knowledge of Regional Planning, including growth management, infrastructure planning, and community development frameworks. Understanding of Environmental Planning principles, including sustainability, site design, and integration of environmental regulations. General Planning skills, including policy research, report writing, and interpretation of planning legislation and guidelines. Bachelor’s degree or higher in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, Geography, or a related field; eligibility or membership with a professional planning institute (e.g., CIP or OPPI) is an asset. Experience with development approvals processes, zoning by-laws, official plans, and site plan applications, preferably in Ontario. Proficiency with planning and mapping tools (e.g., GIS, CAD or similar platforms) and strong data analysis skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear reports and present to diverse stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
