Job summary
US Tax Specialist (Public Accounting) Our client, a mid-sized accounting firm that focuses on privately-owned businesses and entrepreneurial individuals is hiring a US Tax Specialist to join their team in North York. The US Tax Specialist must have a keen interest in cross-border compliance work. They will serve as one of the primary contacts, building trusted, long-term relationships with clients and key stakeholders. They will use their knowledge of the Canada / US Tax Treaty, Internal Revenue Code and Canada’s Income Tax Act in determining the type of return required (i.e. resident, non-resident), based on a variety of determining factors. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing personal, partnership and corporate income tax returns for a large roster of clients. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Prepare and review personal, corporate and partnership returns for cross-border clients • Interact directly with clients to obtain necessary supporting documentation in a timely manner • Research and analyze a wide variety of US and cross boarder tax issues • Work closely with Managers and Partners on providing guidance to clients • Liaise with a network of professionals who support US and cross-border work • Assist with preparation of packages and submission for the Canada’s Voluntary Disclosure Program and IRS Streamlined Procedures REQUIREMENTS • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a progressive tax practice preparing US Tax Returns within a public accounting firm • Experience with Canadian tax knowledge and preparation is an asset • Knowledge of preparing Estate Returns is an asset • Willingness to learn new skills by researching wide variety of tax topics to grow with the firm • Superior attention to detail, communication, and organization skills • Positive team player who can manage and prioritize workflow for themselves and others who are assigned client files • Pursuing in depth tax would be a great asset Interested in learning more? What you’ll do
The US Tax Specialist will prepare and review personal, corporate, and partnership returns for cross-border clients while interacting directly with clients to obtain necessary documentation. They will also research and analyze various US and cross-border tax issues and work closely with Managers and Partners.
Requirements
Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a tax practice preparing US Tax Returns within a public accounting firm. Knowledge of Canadian tax preparation and estate returns is an asset, along with a willingness to learn and strong attention to detail.
