Job summary
The Opportunity: Our client, a growing energy services and engineering organization, is looking to add a Director of Sales Operations and Business Development to their leadership team. This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of an established commercial and multi-residential client base and unlock significant downstream revenue opportunities across HVAC, mechanical and electrical systems, building retrofits, design-build projects, and government and utility incentive programs. The organization has built a strong front-end business through energy modelling and engineering services and is now looking for a commercially driven leader to turn those relationships into larger, high-value projects. You will combine technical sales, business development, operational leadership, and team management, working closely with the existing Business Development function to identify, develop, negotiate, and close opportunities. At the same time, you will strengthen the operational infrastructure behind the business, improve processes, and lead the energy modelling division as the organization scales. This is an ideal opportunity for a technical, commercially minded closer who wants significant ownership, enjoys building businesses, and is motivated by uncapped performance-based earning potential. What You'll Be Doing: Drive commercial growth across an established pipeline of commercial and multi-residential clients, identifying and closing opportunities related to HVAC, mechanical and electrical systems, retrofits, and design-build projects. Partner closely with the Business Development team to develop, pitch, negotiate, and close high-value opportunities while building strong relationships with developers, building owners, property managers, consultants, contractors, and other key stakeholders. Build and scale the organization's energy incentives and rebate business by identifying opportunities, developing client solutions, and securing available government and utility funding. Act as a senior client-facing representative, leading discovery meetings, project kick-offs, sales presentations, and commercial discussions while translating complex technical solutions into compelling business cases. Lead the day-to-day operations of the energy modelling division, managing and developing the technical team while ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and to a high standard. Strengthen the connection between technical delivery and commercial growth by creating clear processes to identify, qualify, and pursue downstream revenue opportunities. Improve operational processes, systems, and financial coordination across proposals, project tracking, billing, invoicing, and reporting to build a scalable and efficient platform for growth. What You'll Need To Be Successful: 10+ years of progressive experience in engineering, energy services, construction, building systems, commercial real estate, or a related technical environment, with a proven track record in technical sales, business development, or commercial leadership. Demonstrated success closing complex, high-value projects and building relationships with developers, building owners, property managers, consultants, contractors, and other senior stakeholders. Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, mechanical and electrical systems, building automation, energy efficiency, and/or building envelope systems, with an understanding of Part 3 and/or Part 9 buildings. Ability to translate complex technical concepts into compelling commercial solutions and effectively present to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proven experience leading and developing multidisciplinary technical or operational teams, with a strong focus on accountability, quality, and performance. Strong commercial, financial, and operational acumen, with the ability to understand project economics, identify revenue opportunities, improve processes, and build scalable infrastructure. Entrepreneurial, highly organized, and results-oriented mindset with the confidence to operate autonomously, navigate ambiguity, drive change, and take ownership of both commercial outcomes and operational execution. Compensation Range: $130,000 - $150,000 base + aggressive profit-sharing, commission, and performance incentives. Target OTE of $250,000 - $350,000+ with uncapped upside.
