Job details
The Opportunity: Our client, a growing Canadian manufacturer providing wear solutions to mining and industrial customers across Ontario and Québec, is looking for a Project Estimator to join their Integrated Solutions team in Sudbury. Reporting to the Solutions Team Lead, you'll own the estimates behind their most complex opportunities. This isn't routine catalogue quoting - it's non-routine, project-specific work where accuracy, margin protection, and sound technical interpretation decide whether they win profitable work. What You'll Be Doing: Detailed Estimating: Prepare comprehensive cost estimates covering materials, labour, equipment, subcontracted services, and logistics. Scope & Drawing Analysis: Analyze drawings, technical specifications, and customer scopes to define true project requirements. Risk & Contingency Management: Identify technical and commercial risks to build appropriate contingencies into every estimate. Proposal Support: Support bids and RFPs with clear, professional cost breakdowns and documentation. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Solutions, Engineering, Operations, Procurement, and Finance to validate estimates and secure vendor pricing. Database & Performance Tracking: Maintain internal cost databases and historical records, tracking estimate accuracy (aiming for ±5% of actual cost) and win rates (targeting 30-40%). Process Improvement: Recommend continuous improvements to estimating tools, methods, and cost-modelling processes. What You'll Need to Be Successful: Education: Diploma or degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field. Experience: 2-5 years of experience in estimating, costing, or a similar role (industrial, mining, or construction environment preferred). Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and customer requirement documents. Costing & Systems Expertise: Strong grasp of cost drivers across labour, materials, and subcontracting, paired with proficiency in Excel, ERP systems, and estimating software. Core Competencies: Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities with a highly collaborative working style. Compensation Range: $75,000 - $85,000 base salary
