Job summary
Board Director Taighwenini Technical Services Corporation is seeking five (5) experienced, strategic, and community-minded individuals to kick-start its Board of Directors to serve a four (4) year term. They are committed to supporting the growth and development of Wahnapitae First Nation as a vibrant, thriving, and prosperous Anishinaabek Community. A minimum of two (2) positions on the Board will be held for those with Wahnapitae First Nation membership. One (1) of whom must live on the Wahnapitae reserve and one of whom must live off reserve. As the Taighwenini Technical Services Corporation enters a new stage of growth and development, Board Directors will play a foundational role in shaping governance structures, guiding long-term strategies, and establishing a strong, effective Board from the ground up. This opportunity is for accomplished leaders who bring prior experience founding, building, or strengthening boards and governance frameworks. Responsibilities Serve as a representative of the Wahnapitae First Nation community members, ensuring their interests are at the forefront of all decisions and operations of the Corporation through the regular attendance of community meetings and regular engagement with members. Create, implement, and oversee the development and implementation of the Corporation’s strategic planning process and strategic plan. Oversee risk management activities, including monitoring approved budgets and ensuring effective financial reporting of the Corporation. Establish and follow governance policies, including the code of conduct and internal controls. Set the goals and objectives of the CEO and other senior management of the Corporation. Review and approve major expenditures, contracts and initiatives. Prepare an annual report of all Corporation activities and present the report to members of Chief and Council and community members. Appoint and train the CEO and other senior management of the Corporation. Board Directors will attend meetings fully prepared and actively participate, including the review of all meeting materials prior to each meeting. Complete an annual review of the Corporation’s internal controls. Board Directors will meet separately after each regularly scheduled Board meeting without its members of management in attendance. Skills & Qualifications Key expertise in the following key areas in Anishinaabe culture, economic development, mining, construction, environmental stewardship, natural resource management fund development, human resources, business administration, investment, operations, laws and corporate governance, finance, and accounting. Previous experience serving on a board, including establishing a board from the ground up. Benefits Honoraria for attending meetings at various rates. Travel expense reimbursement.
