Job details

Established in 1956, Central Precast began manufacturing precast concrete products for the general construction industry. Over time, its products and operations expanded to include landscaping and utility products, manholes, concrete poles, steps, barriers, and architectural panels. This growth led to the formation of The Precast Group, which includes three manufacturing companies: Central Precast Inc., MCON Products Inc., and Utility Structures Inc. As the organization continues to grow, it remains committed to preserving the family-oriented culture, trusted relationships, and practical approach that have contributed to its success. With quality, service, and workplace safety at the forefront, The Precast Group is looking for a full-time, permanent Corporate Controller to support its three locations in the Ottawa area. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced finance leader to oversee the controllership function across multiple manufacturing entities, strengthen financial processes, and become a trusted partner to operational and senior leadership. YOUR DAY TO DAY Reporting to the CFO, the Corporate Controller will oversee accounting, financial reporting, and control activities across multiple companies. Initially focused on core controllership responsibilities, this position offers the opportunity to progressively take on broader financial leadership responsibilities as the successful candidate develops a strong understanding of the businesses and demonstrates readiness for expanded scope. Serve as the primary liaison with external accountants during year-end engagements. Oversee product costing, inventory valuation, work in progress, cost of goods sold, capital assets, and depreciation. Analyse production and operational variances in partnership with plant leadership. Provide meaningful financial insights to support margin management, operational performance, and informed decision-making. Maintain and enhance internal controls, financial policies, and procedures. Support compliance with tax, statutory, and regulatory requirements, including corporate income tax, HST, payroll, and related reporting. Strengthen financial processes to support the organization’s continued growth and long-term scalability. Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members across multiple locations. Partner with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and working capital. Support relationships with financial institutions and contribute to capital investment decisions. Participate in strategic initiatives, including system improvements, expansions, and potential acquisitions. Collaborate with department leaders to identify and develop relevant training programmes. Gradually assume broader organization-wide financial responsibilities based on demonstrated performance, leadership maturity, business understanding, and readiness. What You Bring The ideal candidate is a technically strong, hands-on finance leader who combines sound financial judgement with a collaborative and practical approach. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a multi entity manufacturing environment and partnering with both operational and senior leaders. Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. CPA designation is required. Approximately 8 to 12 or more years of progressive accounting and finance experience. Previous experience as a Controller, Corporate Controller, Director of Finance, or in a comparable senior financial leadership position. Strong technical accounting knowledge, including hands-on experience with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises. Experience working in manufacturing, construction, industrial, or another operationally focused environment. Knowledge of manufacturing and cost accounting, including inventory, work in progress, costing, and operational variance analysis. Experience supporting multiple companies or legal entities. Public accounting, audit, or assurance experience combined with industry experience is considered an asset. Demonstrated ability to lead teams and work effectively across departments. Experience with large ERP systems; Microsoft Dynamics Business Central experience is considered a strong asset. Who You Are You are a collaborative leader who leads by example and is known for your integrity, professionalism, and sound judgement. You take the time to understand people, processes, and culture before implementing change. You excel at building strong working relationships and are comfortable partnering with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. You bring the maturity and confidence to challenge ideas when necessary while maintaining a respectful and team-oriented approach.
