The position typically requires between 3 and 6 hours per week during fall and winter semesters. The Student Learning Assistant is responsible for supporting and enhancing the student learning experience, and promoting a positive and productive learning environment. The role involves working closely with students, especially those in first and second-year chemistry and physics courses, to help them understand and engage with their course material, Responsibilities Assist students in understanding course material and concepts, primarily in CHEM 1201, CHEM 1202, CHEM 2101, and PHYS 1201 and PHYS 1202. Provide tutoring in individual or group settings. Collaborate with faculty to identify students’ learning needs and challenges. Maintain confidentiality of student records and personal information. Participate in training. Review relevant topics as needed in advance of assigned hours. Informally communicate common conceptual misunderstandings to the relevant course coordinators. Keep a detailed record of the course or courses in which help was provided and the number of students assisted during each shift. Qualifications The ideal candidates will be third- or fourth-year students currently enrolled in MRU's B.Sc. Chemistry or B.Sc. General Science with a Physics Concentration, a Chemistry Minor or a Physics Minor. They will have completed at least one of the courses mentioned above with a grade of B or higher on each course. In addition to demonstrating strong academic performance in the subject area(s) to be tutored, they will also possess: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. An understanding of and appreciation for common barriers to success in first and second-year chemistry and physics courses. Requirements

Candidates must be 3rd or 4th year students in B.Sc. Chemistry or General Science with a Physics concentration, having earned a grade of B or higher in relevant courses. Strong communication skills and a willingness to help students overcome academic barriers are required.
