Job Title Winter Seasonal Groundskeeper Job Type Flexible Union MRSA Salary Grade Flexible / Casual Classification (Salary Grade) SPH00 Physical Services (Salary Grade 13) Hybrid Work This position is ineligible Position End Date 3/31/2027 Location MRU Main Campus - Calgary, AB T3E 6K6 CA (Primary) About This Position About the Role Working within the Grounds Department, this is a flexible position whose work schedule is variable and may include an irregular schedule of not less than three (3) hours per shift and up to thirty-five (35) hours per week. This position could work mornings or afternoons, weekdays or weekends. Under general supervision of the Grounds Supervisor, this incumbent performs maintenance duties such as picking up leaves, garbage collection, pruning trees, pruning shrubs and snow removal. Winter Position runs from Oct 1 to March 31 on a call out basis. Responsibilities Removes snow and ice (whenever possible) from pedestrian, vehicular routes and parking lots before the start of University activities by hand or with machines. Applies sand, gravel and de-icer by hand or machine to keep surfaces safe Is responsible for snow fence dismantling Pruning trees and shrubs Pick up leaves Clean parking lots and roadways for spring Assist the Full-time staff when needed Use of UTV for snow removal, transportation and moving material Brings to the attention of the supervisor, any major and minor repairs that might be needed Assists in keeping all equipment clean and in good working order such as oil levels, tire pressures, etc. Removes garbage from all exterior waste receptacles, plus physically bends down and picks up garbage throughout the entire campus grounds on a daily basis Sweeps all entrances daily to remove cigarette butts and debris, clean-out all butt buckets (large ashtrays) Spring clean-up, roadway and parking lot sweeping, road drain cleaning, curb and boulevard sweeping and cleaning Replaces and installs signage Repairs and maintains exterior landscape features.
