We are hiring a Technical Accountant in Toronto who will be responsible for the reinsurance and primary technical accounting business including booking and analyzing data for casualty, property, and other lines of business. Detail-oriented professional with a passion for solving puzzles and uncovering discrepancies. Adept at analytical thinking and problem-solving, Key Accountabilities Technical Accounting Tasks:• Review policy documents, analyze data and investigate discrepancies in order to clear aged accounts receivables/payables.• Review, reconcile and post clients’ premiums, claims and commissions bordereaux for Managing General Agents, Brokers and Clients.• Review and rebook technical items and claims for settlement within specified time frame.• Responsible for setting up new and renewed treaties in technical accounting systems and quality assurance against contract wordings.• Monitor department inbox and respond to clients (internal/external) queries.• Monitor the plausibility of forecasts and update prognosis and estimates collectively with underwriters• Reconcile balances to client reports and individual items for internal matching• Post special reserves, contingent commissions and late adjustments• Prepare monthly/quarterly reconciliation reports and other ad hoc reports• Ensure any assigned system interfaces are reconciled and of high qualityGeneral Tasks:• Develop effective relationships with Underwriting and Claims personnel for continuous collaboration• Collaborate and support all areas of Technical Accounting on an ongoing basis• Ensure proper Records Management protocols are followed• Prepare reports and analysis as needed• Support both Internal and External audit requests• Keep up to date with business developments to ensure processes are effective and efficient• Document all material processes and risks within delegated area and review regularly• Seek ways to continually improve local process effectiveness/efficiency Your profileRequired Education• University or College; General accounting courses or college diploma required• Basic knowledge of (re)insurance • Ongoing upgrading of PC Skills and Accounting knowledgePreferred Experience• Knowledge of Windows and MS Office applications• 2 years of accounting experience• Working knowledge of SAP desiredSpecialized Knowledge and Skills• Aptitude for figures and strong analytical thinking• Attention to detail and accuracy• Proactive motivated self-starter• Ability to work to set tight deadlines• Quickly adapts to new challenges and situations• Effectively work in a team environment and on an individual basis• Proficiency in Excel• Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills• (Re)Insurance accounting experience and understanding of contract wordings In addition to an exciting job opportunity, we offer the following: • Exposure to challenging projects and development opportunities to grow your skills and career with both local and global colleagues and partners are available. • A comprehensive total rewards financial program which includes extensive flexible benefits and pension. • A hybrid work environment in an inspiring physical workplace setting.• Educational Assistance Programs that continue to recognize your on-going success. Our base salary range for this role is between $59,000 and $77,000 per year, plus an opportunity for an annual company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to internal equity. The Technical Accountant is responsible for managing reinsurance and primary technical accounting, including booking and analyzing data for various lines of business. Candidates must have a university or college education with accounting coursework and at least 2 years of relevant accounting experience. Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, and a basic understanding of (re)insurance are required.
