About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our Algorithm Team at Trane Technologies. This pivotal role involves designing, developing, and maintaining the core software systems that power BrainBox AI's autonomous HVAC optimization platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building scalable microservices, real-time data processing, and working collaboratively with data scientists and machine learning engineers to bring intelligent building control algorithms into production. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of AI-driven building automation, leveraging cloud-native technologies and innovative architectures to deliver impactful solutions. The Senior Software Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the platform's robustness, scalability, and performance, contributing to our mission of creating sustainable and efficient climate solutions. Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in software development. Advanced proficiency in Python, including asynchronous programming paradigms. Experience in building microservices and APIs using FastAPI or similar frameworks. Hands-on experience with Kafka or comparable real-time messaging technologies. Strong knowledge of AWS cloud services such as Lambda, ECS, EC2, S3, and IAM. Experience working with DynamoDB or other NoSQL databases. Proficiency in containerizing applications using Docker. Demonstrated ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code. Experience working within Agile development environments. Background in algorithmic or data-driven systems is considered a strong asset. Proven mentoring skills and experience contributing to architectural decisions. Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain high-performance microservices that support BrainBox AI's autonomous HVAC platform. Collaborate closely with data scientists and machine learning engineers to productionize advanced building control algorithms. Develop reliable, scalable APIs using FastAPI to facilitate real-time data ingestion, processing, and decision-making workflows. Implement event-driven architectures utilizing Kafka to enable high throughput streaming and distributed processing. Create, optimize, and maintain NoSQL data models with DynamoDB to support large-scale operational workloads. Deploy and manage cloud-native services on AWS, adhering to best practices for security, performance, and resiliency. Containerize application components using Docker to ensure consistent deployment across environments. Contribute to architectural decisions, ensuring system robustness, maintainability, and scalability as the platform evolves. Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues to maintain high system reliability and performance. Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and collaborative planning with a cross-functional team. Mentor junior developers, providing guidance on coding standards, design practices, and problem-solving approaches.
