Job details
THE COMPANY New Metric Media is a leading and award-winning entertainment studio behind hit comedies like Letterkenny and Shoresy, the premium drama Bad Blood, and a growing slate of non-scripted and documentary content. NMM is also a leader in 360° brand extension — merch, live touring, and audience-first franchise building around its IP. THE ROLE NMM is seeking a VP, Non-Scripted and Documentary to lead development and production across documentaries, reality, and non-scripted formats spanning comedy, sports, and true crime. You’ll identify talent, IP, and stories with breakout potential, and build the slate from first pitch through delivery. You know the non-scripted and documentary landscape across genres — who’s commissioning, what’s working, and where audience appetite is heading next in sports storytelling, true crime, and comedic reality/formats. You bring the relationships, taste, and instincts to get projects made, sold, and seen. RESPONSIBILITIES Sourcing and developing talent, IP, and story concepts across documentary, reality, and non-scripted formats in comedy, sports, and true crime Identifying and securing underlying rights (books, podcasts, articles, life rights, existing formats) for adaptation Building pitch decks and sales strategies for domestic and international buyers (networks, streamers, platforms) Managing development slates across multiple genres simultaneously, from concept through greenlight Overseeing greenlit projects through production — staffing, showrunners, budgets, standards/legal, and cut approval — to protect creative vision and brand integrity Representing NMM at markets, festivals, and industry events to source deals and IP WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR Hands-on development and production experience across non-scripted genres — documentary, reality, and/or true crime Credited executive producer or producer on at least one released non-scripted series or documentary Fluency across multiple non-scripted formats, not just one genre — comedy, sports, and true crime specifically Strong relationships with talent agents, non-scripted buyers, and production partners in Canada and internationally Experience with rights acquisition, life-rights negotiation, and E&O/legal considerations specific to true crime and doc work Experience managing non-scripted production budgets and financing plans Excellent judgment and discretion — true crime work in particular demands careful handling of sensitive material Ability to run multiple projects and genres in parallel in a fast-paced studio environment LOCATION & WORK ENVIRONMENT Toronto-based, four days a week in office. Includes domestic and international travel for productions, markets, and festivals. WHY JOIN US? At New Metric Media, we build bold, brand-defining content and turn it into franchises. As VP, Non-Scripted and Documentary, you’ll build out a new pillar of the business — bringing the same rigor and instinct that built our scripted hits to real stories across sports, crime, and comedic reality. HOW TO APPLY Please submit your resume along with a brief introduction telling us a bit about yourself and why you’re interested in the role to amazingopportunities@newmetricmedia.com We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
