Data Centre Facilities Assessment Consultant (ID#5511)

New Value Solutions (NVS), a national IT consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Data Centre Facilities Assessment Consultant to conduct an on-site assessment of an existing server room in Mississauga, Ontario. The consultant will evaluate the facility’s environmental, electrical, mechanical, physical, security, and operational conditions, identify risks and deficiencies, and provide objective findings to support decisions regarding remediation of the existing environment or potential relocation to a professionally managed data centre or colocation facility. Responsibilities: Conduct a comprehensive, non-invasive on-site assessment of the existing server room and supporting facilities infrastructure. Assess electrical capacity, power distribution, UPS systems, PDUs, grounding, emergency power, redundancy, and potential single points of electrical failure. Evaluate HVAC and cooling systems, including capacity, condition, airflow, temperature consistency, redundancy, and 24x7 cooling availability. Measure and document server-room temperature and relative humidity and assess environmental conditions against accepted practices for IT equipment. Inspect for water, moisture, condensation, plumbing, drainage, roof-leak, and flood-related risks. Review fire detection and suppression systems and identify observable fire-protection deficiencies. Assess the physical condition and suitability of the server room, including walls, ceilings, doors, flooring, room penetrations, cleanliness, and other environmental or structural conditions. Review rack condition, equipment placement, available capacity, cable management, airflow restrictions, and power/network cable separation. Assess physical security controls including door locks, card access, access logging, key management, and CCTV coverage where applicable. Review environmental monitoring capabilities for temperature, humidity, water, power failure, UPS condition, HVAC failure, smoke/fire, and unauthorized access. Evaluate overall resiliency and business continuity, including power, cooling and network redundancy, emergency power, monitoring, building-outage risks, and other significant single points of failure. Identify immediate risks and deficiencies as well as improvements that could be made to the existing server-room environment. Compare the existing environment against accepted data-centre practices and identify risks that could be reduced through relocation to a professional data centre or colocation facility. Document relevant site conditions through measurements, observations, and photographs where permitted. Prepare a concise Server Room Environmental and Facilities Assessment Report summarizing findings, risk ratings, deficiencies, remediation recommendations, single points of failure, and observations supporting potential future infrastructure decisions. Translate technical findings into clear business and operational risks that can be understood by technical and executive stakeholders. Requirements: 5+ years of experience working with server rooms, data centres, telecommunications facilities, or other mission-critical IT environments. Demonstrated experience conducting server-room, data-centre, facilities, readiness, or infrastructure risk assessments. Strong knowledge of data-centre electrical infrastructure, including UPS systems, power distribution, redundancy, and resiliency. Knowledge of HVAC and cooling systems used within server-room or data-centre environments. Experience assessing environmental monitoring, temperature and humidity management, and water/moisture risks. Knowledge of fire detection and suppression considerations for critical IT environments. Experience assessing racks, cabling, equipment environments, and physical-security controls. Strong understanding of infrastructure resiliency, business continuity, and identification of single points of failure. Ability to independently perform a comprehensive, non-invasive facilities assessment with limited supervision. Ability to document technical evidence and translate findings into practical business and operational risk. Experience producing clear infrastructure assessment reports, recommendations, and executive-level findings. Experience with colocation or professionally managed commercial data-centre environments is considered an asset. Familiarity with ASHRAE recommendations for IT environments is considered an asset. Familiarity with Uptime Institute concepts and Tier-style resiliency principles is considered an asset. CDCP, CDCS, DCCA, or similar data-centre facilities/infrastructure certification is considered an asset. Electrical, HVAC, facilities, or building-systems experience is considered an asset.
