Job details
Senior AWS & Azure Engineer LOCATION: Remote | Type: Contract About Newpage Solutions Newpage Solutions is a global digital health innovation company helping people live longer, healthier lives. We partner with life sciences organisations which include, pharmaceutical, biotech and healthcare leaders, to build transformative AI and data driven technologies addressing real-world health challenges. From strategy and research to UX design and agile development, we deliver and validate impactful solutions using lean, human-centered practices. We are proud to be a ‘Great Place to Work®’ certified company for the last three consecutive years. We also hold a top Glassdoor rating and are named among the "Top 50 Most Promising Healthcare Solution Providers" by CIOReview. As an organisation, we foster creativity, continuous learning and inclusivity, creating an environment where bold ideas thrive and make a measurable difference in people’s lives. Your Mission We are hiring a Senior AWS & Azure Engineer to join our client on a contract basis, dedicated to their commercial organization. You will be the senior AWS engineer the commercial teams rely on to design, build, and run the cloud foundations their data, analytics, and digital products depend on, with working depth in Azure so the work holds together across both clouds. The need is immediate, so this role is built for someone who can get productive quickly: read an existing environment, find what matters, and start delivering without a long ramp-up. You bring AWS depth as your core, and intermediate or higher Azure skills so you can work across both platforms rather than hand off at the boundary. You will work as one team with the commercial organization's product, data, and technology colleagues. You are not there to run a ticket queue. You are there to make their cloud environments secure, reliable, cost-aware, and easy to build on. What You’ll Do Engineer on AWS and Azure Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure and services on AWS, and work across Azure for workloads and integrations that live there. Choose the right services and architecture for each commercial use case, and document the decision so the next engineer understands it. Support migration, modernization, and integration work across the two clouds, keeping data and applications connected and secure. Troubleshoot complex environment, networking, and performance issues to root cause rather than workaround. Automate and Deliver Build and maintain infrastructure as code so environments are consistent, reviewable, and reproducible. Create and improve CI/CD pipelines that take changes from commit to production safely and repeatably. Reduce manual effort through scripting and automation, and leave patterns and templates the commercial teams can reuse. Operate, Secure, and Optimize Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting so issues are caught early and are easy to diagnose. Apply identity, access, network, and data-protection controls that meet the client's security and compliance expectations. Track cloud spend, flag waste, and recommend right-sizing and cost-optimization changes. Contribute to reliability practices such as backup, recovery, and incident response. Partner with the Commercial Organization Work day to day with commercial product, data, and technology stakeholders to understand what they need and translate it into practical cloud solutions. Coordinate with the client's wider cloud, security, and platform teams so your work fits their standards and guardrails. Document what you build and hand it over cleanly, so knowledge stays with the team when the contract ends. What You Bring Cloud Engineering Senior, hands-on experience engineering and operating production workloads on AWS, including core compute, storage, networking, identity, and security services. Intermediate or higher skills in Microsoft Azure, with the ability to work productively across both clouds. Strong infrastructure-as-code experience (for example Terraform, CloudFormation, or Bicep). Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and automation, with scripting skills in a language such as Python or Bash. Working knowledge of monitoring and observability, containers, and cloud networking and security fundamentals. AI and Data Fluency Familiarity with the cloud services that support data, analytics, and AI workloads on AWS and Azure, and comfort supporting teams that build on them. Comfortable using AI-assisted tools to speed up coding, scripting, and documentation, while still reviewing the output carefully. Judgement and Communication Able to ramp up quickly in an unfamiliar environment and deliver as a contractor with minimal supervision. Clear communicator who can explain technical trade-offs to non-technical commercial stakeholders. Sound judgement on security, cost, and reliability, and willingness to raise concerns early. Comfortable working with distributed teams and flexible with time zones across Europe and North America. Bonus Skills / Experience Experience in life sciences, pharmaceutical, or other regulated industries, including working within validation, audit, or data-privacy requirements. Experience supporting commercial, sales, marketing, or customer-data platforms. Professional-level cloud certifications, such as AWS Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer Professional, or Azure Administrator or Solutions Architect Expert. Experience with FinOps practices and cloud cost governance. Experience with data and AI platforms on AWS or Azure. Experience with infrastructure automation or AI-assisted provisioning, such as policy-as-code, LLM-assisted infrastructure-as-code generation, or agent-driven workflows. Familiarity with platform engineering and self-service provisioning, so teams can request and get compliant cloud environments without waiting on a ticket. What Success Looks Like By 30 days. You understand the commercial organization's AWS and Azure environments, have access and ways of working in place, and have delivered your first piece of work. By 90 days. You are running your own workstream: infrastructure and pipelines are codified, monitoring is in place, and commercial teams come to you first for cloud questions. By six months. The environments you own are more secure, more reliable, and cheaper to run than when you arrived, and the documentation means the team can carry on without you What We Offer At Newpage, we’re building a company that works smart and grows with agility, where driven individuals come together to do work that matters. We offer: A people-first culture - Supportive peers, open communication and a strong sense of belonging Smart, purposeful collaboration - Work with talented colleagues to create technologies that solve meaningful business challenges Balance that lasts - We respect your time and support a healthy integration of work and life Room to grow - Opportunities for learning, leadership and career development, shaped around you Meaningful rewards - Competitive compensation that recognises both contribution and potential Ready to Apply?
