Northern Mat & Bridge is seeking a Field Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our Maintenance team. This role is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, repairing, and servicing trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment to ensure equipment is safe, reliable, compliant, and ready to support operational requirements. Responsibilities Equipment Maintenance & Readiness Complete preventive maintenance, inspections, servicing, and repairs on trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and attachments. Assess equipment performance, identify faults or malfunctions, and determine the scope of required repairs. Complete major mechanical repairs and overhauls when required. Test repaired equipment to confirm safe operation and compliance with manufacturer specifications. Help ensure assigned equipment is safe, reliable, and ready for service. Diagnostics & Technical Support Diagnose and troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems. Utilize appropriate tools, technology, service information, and technical expertise to complete repairs efficiently. Escalate significant repair concerns, safety risks, or operational impacts to the Maintenance Manager. Documentation & Compliance Complete work orders, inspection sheets, service records, and maintenance documentation accurately and on time. Follow company health and safety requirements, safe work procedures, equipment standards, and environmental practices. Maintain company tools, service vehicles, equipment, and work areas in a safe and orderly condition. Team & Operational Support Work collaboratively with Operations, Administration, Sales, Accounting, clients, and contractors to support equipment availability. Provide guidance and practical training to apprentices when required. Complete welding repairs to equipment attachments when qualified and authorized. Perform other duties reasonably related to the position. Experience Third-year or fourth-year apprentice, Journeyperson, or Red Seal certification as a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician. Minimum three (3) years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment. Experience with Peterbilt, Ford, Caterpillar, John Deere, or Komatsu equipment is considered an asset. Valid driver's licence with an acceptable driver's abstract that meets company insurance requirements. Class 1 driver's licence is considered an asset. Welding experience is considered an asset. Other Skills and Abilities Strong mechanical aptitude and practical troubleshooting skills. Comfortable using technology, diagnostic tools, and electronic maintenance systems. Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and make sound decisions in the field. Strong teamwork skills with a collaborative and respectful approach. Clear verbal and written communication skills. Positive, safety-focused, and solutions-oriented attitude. Ability and willingness to travel and work away from home when required.
