< Back Mechanical Designer Lunenburg, NS ABCO Industries Inc https://abco.ca/ Posting Last Updated September 2, 2026 Overview The Mechanical Designer is responsible for developing innovative, accurate, and cost- effective mechanical designs from concept through manufacturing and commissioning. This role works closely with internal teams, fabrication shops, and customers to deliver high-quality solutions across ABCO’s four main industries: food processing, marine, environmental, and industrial fabrication. Duties & Responsibilities Create detailed mechanical designs, drawings, and bill of materials for manufacturing Develop conceptual designs and assist with proposals and technical sales support Prepare project cost estimates and assist with budgeting Coordinate projects across departments to ensure alignment and efficiency Collaborate with fabrication teams to optimize manufacturability and production processes Perform quality checks to ensure designs meet company and customer standards Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance evaluation of installed equipment Ensure all deliverables meet deadlines, specifications, and cost targets Additional Responsibilities Communicate effectively with customers during design, sales, and project execution phases Contribute to the development and improvement of standard operating procedures Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and manufacturing methods Participate in team initiatives and continuous improvement efforts Provide support to other departments as needed Travel occasionally for site visits, commissioning, and customer support Skills & Qualifications Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Design or related program required 2 + years’ mechanical design experience required. We are looking for individuals of intermediate to senior skill level. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent) Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentals Experience with fabrication processes (welding, machining, forming, etc.) Ability to produce and interpret detailed technical drawings Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Effective communication and teamwork abilities Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) Preferred Experience in industrial equipment, food machinery, marine, or custom fabrication. Working Conditions Work Location/ Schedule: Full Time, Weekdays In person @ 81 Tannery Rd, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia Work Environment Office-based with regular interaction with fabrication and production teams.
