Discover The Opportunity Stellarton, NS In-person Education and Training Experienced Temporary Competition Number: 2627-193 Benefits Health Insurance Dental Insurance Paid Time Off Retirement Plans Pension plan Life Insurance Disability Insurance Employee Assistance Program Wellness Programs Operational Support Facilities Support Assistant (FS4) Pictou Campus Stellarton, Nova Scotia Department of Facilities and Engineering Term Full-Time Position: Commencing approximately November 23, 2026 and ending approximately March 30, 2028 Application deadline is 11:59PM, October 15, 2026 Competition No. 2627-193 Salary range: $41,702.30 to $43,315.12 annually Share What you'll do Responsibilities Reporting to the Facilities Manager, you will: Provide effective and timely maintenance and custodial service that promotes commitment to the care and preservation of Campus facilities, a safe work environment and effective risk management in order to create and maintain a welcoming environment reflecting standards of excellence in support of NSCC programs. With an emphasis on energy and sustainability, perform a full range of routine and special cleaning duties associated with keeping the Campus in a safe and hygienic condition. Perform routine painting duties and room rental setups. You may also be required to perform basic landscaping duties with a ride on mower, whipper snipper, and/or lawn mower. Hours of work may vary. Shift work and on-call duties as required. Please note that you will be required to wear a supplied uniform. What you'll need Qualifications Qualifications and Occupational Experience: The minimum educational qualification for this position is a high school diploma or recognized equivalent (GED) or willingness to attain a high school diploma or GED. Training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations would be considered an asset, as would Standard First Aid and CPR and possession of a valid NS driver's licence. You have a minimum of one year's experience (full-time equivalent) as a cleaner (including the operation of waxing and polishing machines and automatic scrubbers). Custodial and/or maintenance experience in a post-secondary or commercial setting would be considered an asset. Occupational experience that includes working in one or more of the trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical) would be considered an asset. Experience with basic landscaping duties and the equipment to perform them, such as a ride on mower, whipper snipper, and lawn mowers would be considered an asset. You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail and Megamation. You have demonstrated experience providing general, preventative, and scheduled maintenance duties. Required to use and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include completing respirator fit testing and wearing a respirator as required. Ability to safely use ladders less than 10 feet in height, as required. Relevant Skills And Knowledge You demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility and anti-racism. Requirements
A high school diploma or recognized equivalent is required, or the candidate must be willing to obtain one, along with at least one year of full-time-equivalent cleaning experience that includes operating waxing and polishing machines and automatic scrubbers. Candidates should be comfortable with Microsoft Office, email, and Megamation, able to perform physical facility duties, and comply with occupational health and safety and PPE requirements; a driver's licence, first aid, CPR, WHMIS training, and related maintenance or landscaping experience are assets.
