Cost Analyst

Reporting to Manager, Capital Accounting, you will be responsible for monitoring the financial performance of the Large Capital Projects group and providing reliable and timely information and analysis to key stakeholders in both Operations and Finance. Key elements of this role include: As a Cost Analyst you will be responsible for Proving accounting for the monthly, quarterly, and yearly closes, which includes preparing required journal entries and analyzing project accruals Creating capital project estimates and documentation to support Forecast and Budgeting cycles Preparing detailed variance analysis for Capital Projects, comparing results to Budgets and Forecasts Preparing monthly reconciliations Performing projects tasks with overall quality, while being able to prioritize work to meet deadlines Ad-hoc projects and analysis, as required These skills will make you successful: To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below: As the ideal candidate, you have a recognized Accounting/Business Certificate or degree, and a minimum of 2 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience You have excellent computer skills using Microsoft Excel and are comfortable using accounting software You have strong organizational skills, communication skills, are detailed oriented, and are comfortable working to deadlines Commitment to personal and professional growth; support is available for employees pursuing their CPA designation Highly motivated self-starter with a proactive approach to learning and problem-solving Learn more about our culture and values At the Emera Group of Companies, you’ll be part of an inclusive, respectful workplace where everyone is welcomed and supported. The Cost Analyst monitors the financial performance of large capital projects by preparing journal entries, project accruals, and detailed variance analyses. They also support budgeting and forecasting cycles while ensuring high-quality financial reporting for stakeholders in Operations and Finance.

Candidates must possess a recognized accounting or business certificate or degree along with at least two years of relevant experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong organizational and communication skills are essential for success in this role.
