Role Description The Tool and Die Maker role at NUCAP Brakes is a full-time, on-site position based in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada. This role involves manufacturing, repairing, and maintaining tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures used in brake component production. Day-to-day responsibilities include interpreting technical drawings and blueprints, setting up and operating manual and CNC machines, and performing precision machining, fitting, and polishing. The Tool and Die Maker will troubleshoot tooling issues, perform preventive maintenance, and collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve tooling performance and efficiency. The role also includes monitoring quality, adhering to safety procedures, and documenting work to support consistent, reliable manufacturing processes. Qualifications Strong tool and die making skills, including precision machining, fitting, and assembly of tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures. Proficiency in operating conventional and CNC equipment (e.g., mills, lathes, grinders, EDM) and using precision measuring instruments. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD prints, and technical specifications, and apply GD&T principles. Experience with troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining production tooling, as well as performing root-cause analysis on tooling issues. Knowledge of manufacturing processes, metal properties, heat treatment, and safe handling of materials and equipment. Commitment to workplace safety, quality standards, and continuous improvement practices (lean manufacturing or similar methodologies). Relevant trade certification or apprenticeship completion as a Tool and Die Maker or equivalent; additional training in CNC or CAD/CAM is an asset. Ability to work collaboratively with production and engineering teams, manage priorities in a fast-paced environment, and maintain accurate documentation. Prior experience in automotive or industrial manufacturing is an advantage.
