The Role Senior Reservoir Engineer – Light Oil Employment: Full Time – Staff Position Department: Development Location: Calgary, Alberta Posting Close Date: October 30, 2026 Reports To: Director, Light Oil Development Obsidian Energy is seeking a Senior Reservoir Engineer to join our Light Oil Development team. We are looking for an experienced professional who has a strong understanding of reservoir engineering fundamentals, practical expertise, and experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The goal of our team is to deliver measurable economic value by improving asset performance. This role will contribute to the evaluation, development, and management of our light oil assets by analyzing well and reservoir performance, developing production forecasts for drilling opportunities, supporting waterflood management, and helping identify and execute new drilling inventory. This role offers the opportunity to apply your experience, influence investment decisions, and deliver measurable economic value. Responsibilities Duties include the following, but are not limited to: Use technical and statistical expertise to analyze well performance and apply the results to type-curve development and forecasting for inventory locations; Apply reservoir engineering fundamentals, including decline analysis, volumetrics, material balance, and reservoir analysis; Support waterflood surveillance and management, including voidage replacement ratio reviews, pattern performance assessment, and the identification of performance improvement opportunities; Work with other disciplines such as geology and geophysics to identify and rank reservoir exploitation opportunities; Assist with annual reserves; Prepare and communicate findings and recommendations to the development team and senior leaders; and Continually improve workflows, analytical methods, and understanding of the asset. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical, or a related discipline Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA Relevant reservoir engineering experience at a senior level; applicants with experience up to 25 years are welcome Strong understanding of reservoir engineering fundamentals and demonstrated ability to apply them to development decisions Experience with production-data analysis, decline-curve analysis, type-curve development, and waterflood surveillance Familiarity with GeoScout, ValNav, or similar technical and economic evaluation software will be considered an asset Exposure to light-oil development, horizontal wells, and hydraulically fractured reservoirs Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and practical problem-solving skills Effective organizational, communication, and teamwork skills, with the ability to present technical recommendations to senior leaders Must be eligible to work in Canada Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and contribute practical ideas within a collaborative team What Makes Us Attractive Obsidian Energy is more than just a place to work - it’s a community of professionals who are truly committed to the continuous evolution of the company and have interest in its success.
