Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Energy Market Affairs Supervisor . Job Overview Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Energy Market Affairs Supervisor. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Market Affairs, this position is responsible for providing technical lead and guidance to a dynamic team that supports OPG’s relationship with the IESO, monitoring IESO market initiatives and design changes, providing expert advice in market rules review and interpretation and lead after-the-fact analysis. Key Accountabilities Supervise and be accountable for the team that manages OPG’s relationship with the IESO. Responsible for hiring, onboarding, supervising, coaching, development planning and performance evaluation of the team. Perform after-the-fact analysis of Ontario market events and work in conjunction with various experts in Energy Markets, Commercial Markets, Finance and Regulatory Affairs to deliver strategies and recommendations relating to operation of OPG’s generation assets. Monitor, evaluate and provide public feedback to IESO’s market initiatives or design changes that could impact generation operations and make recommendations to advocate for OPG's position and advance OPG’s strategic goals. Knowledge of the IESO’s Market Power Mitigation framework in order to negotiate with the IESO for representative reference levels and quantities for OPG’s generation assets. Act as the subject matter expert to provide guidance, training, interpretation, identification and problem resolution for new market developments and for market rules and market manuals amendments. Apply knowledge of the Ontario electricity market, electricity revenue streams and hydroelectric and thermal operations to develop strategies and recommendations to optimize the operation of OPG’s generation assets. Lead and participate in initiatives that drive commercial value and operational excellence across OPG’s generating fleet. Qualifications Mimium 4 year University degree in Engineering, Science, Finance, Economics, Law or related fields. Must have 8 or more years of relevant work experience in the energy industry; Direct experience working in the Ontario electricity system and energy markets; hands-on involvement with market operations, market settlements, or market rules interpretation are considered assets. Experience in the interpretation and application of IESO’s Market Rules and Market Manuals for asset operation in Ontario’s electricity market. Experience with hydro operations and/or development and execution of market offer strategy in the Ontario electricity market, including familiarity with operational practices and policies, water management protocols and coordination with the IESO. Advanced analytical skills with demonstrated ability to work with and manipulate large data sets, develop robust analytical models, and perform complex numerical analysis using tools (e.g. Excel, PowerBI, MATLAB); proven capability to translate complex quantitative data into clear, actionable insights. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated experience engaging both internal groups and external audiences—including stakeholders, public agencies, government entities, and the general public; proven ability to tailor communication style and approach appropriately for audiences ranging from staff to executive leadership. Important Information The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
