Job Description & Responsibilities At InterPro Pipe & Steel, the Melt Shop Supervisor is crucial for ensuring optimal performance and safety standards within the melt shop, directly impacting efficiency of our processes and overall success of steelmaking. InterPro Pipe & Steel is committed to maintaining and promoting a safe, healthy and injury-free environment. * Coordinate repairs, direct production activities and preventative maintenance with the Maintenance department. * Coordinate and direct activities of unionized employees working throughout the Melt Shop, Caster, and Steel Yard; on occasion direct Maintenance personnel. * Supervision of unionized employees, which includes, but is not limited to: communication of job expectations, planning, training, coaching/counseling, performance and attendance management, and issuing discipline. * Enforce systems, policies, and procedures as they pertain to the safety, quality, and environmental footprint of operations. * Responsible for utilizing a hands-on approach to effectively address technical and non-technical issues related to production, by recognizing potential problems and making critical decisions independently. * Assure that safety processes, procedures, and protocol to ensure a safe work environment are being followed. * Assist the safety team in safety investigations and organize and oversee emergency evacuations. * Perform administrative activities such as scheduling (overtime, vacations, organizing the workforce as a result of absenteeism, layoffs, etc.), reviews employees’ times into the Kronos system, complete reports, conduct safety toolbox talks, Gemba walks, performance/ progress reports, compile data and various reports as required. * Create value for customers as a world-class supplier of innovative steel products by ensuring high quality while maintaining cost effectiveness Requirements * High school diploma is required; metallurgy and chemistry background is an asset. * Experience in Industrial Manufacturing; Experience with Steelmaking or Metallurgy preferred. * Supervisory experience in Manufacturing environment considered an asset * Experience in a unionized environment is an asset. * Ability to work rotating day/night shifts which include extended workdays, weekends, and statutory holidays. * Strong leadership abilities, including previous experience leading teams. * Strong safe work-orientated mindset. * Knowledge of Kronos and Workday are an asset.
