Job summary
We have an immediate opening for a Lead Dock Service Technician in our Vancouver Branch. Reporting to the Field Operations Manager. This role is a permanent, full-time position. There is the possibility of on call and overtime. RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities * Install, service, troubleshoot, and repair commercial and industrial dock equipment, including: * Dock levelers * Elevated platforms * Dock seals and shelters * Dock bumpers * Vehicle restraints * Dock plates * Dock lifts * Edge-of-dock equipment * Loading dock doors and related dock equipment * Whiling to work on overhead doors and pedestrian man doors if necessary * Mechanical, hydraulic, air activated dock levelers * Diagnose equipment problems, identify solutions, and complete required repairs. * Assess job scope at the beginning of each job and immediately communicate discrepancies to the scheduler, including warranty concerns, site conditions, required parts, and safety issues. * Provide estimates for required person-hours and repair-versus-replacement recommendations. * Regularly communicate and coordinate with the scheduler regarding troubleshooting, solutions, parts requirements, and job status. * Perform welding as required for installation and repair work. * Work safely with hand tools, power tools, lifts, ladders, trailers, and other equipment. * Safely transport products, tools, equipment, and manlifts to and from job sites. * Maintain a professional manner when interacting with warehouse staff, construction project managers, customers, other trades, and safety personnel. * Maintain a strong focus on quality workmanship and customer satisfaction. * Champion company safety standards and demonstrate a strong safety-first mindset. * Provide guidance and mentorship to helpers while assisting them in developing their technical skills. * Complete all required paperwork accurately and daily, including timesheets, FHLA forms, job work orders, detailed job notes, and applicable part numbers. * Participate in the service on-call rotation when required. * Ensure all required safety training, certifications, and tickets remain current and valid, and communicate upcoming renewals to the scheduler. * Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality. * Travel out of town for installation and service work as required, including occasional travel outside regular weekdays. * Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Qualifications * 3–5 years of experience in dock equipment service, installation, repairs, product knowledge for sales and quotation. * Strong experience servicing and installing dock levelers and commercial loading dock equipment is strongly preferred. * A working knowledge of hydraulics, and electrical relevant to dock systems * A strong ability to weld and or hold a current welding ticket or certification. * Relevant safety training and tickets are an asset, including: * OSSA Fall Protection * OSSA Elevated Work Platform * Standard First Aid * CSTS * BSO * Other applicable industry safety certifications * Above-average mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Resourcefulness, integrity, strong work ethic, and a professional attitude. * Ability to provide direction and support to helpers and less experienced employees. * Valid driver's license and clean driver's abstract are required. * Successful candidates must provide a current Driver's Abstract from the province in which the position is located, at their own expense. Physical & Working Conditions * Ability to lift and handle materials weighing up to 75 lbs. * Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat. * Physically capable of lifting, pulling, climbing, standing, sitting, lying down, squatting, kneeling, and working at heights. * Ability to safely operate and manage tools, lifts, ladders, trailers, and manlifts. * Wearing a hard hat and all required PPE is mandatory for this safety-sensitive position. * Willingness to travel out of town for installation and service work, including occasional travel outside regular weekdays. * Ability to participate in an on-call service rotation when required.
