Job details

About RIC Power Corp RIC Power Corp. is owned by Panelmatic and designs and manufactures medium-voltage switchgear solutions for utilities, industrial facilities, and infrastructure projects where safety, reliability, and performance are critical. Our focus is on delivering engineered-to-order systems, including metal-enclosed, metal-clad, and arc-resistant switchgear, tailored to the unique requirements of each application. With a deep understanding of electrical distribution, protection, and safety standards, RIC Power develops solutions that support long-term system reliability while prioritizing operator safety and ease of maintenance. Every system is carefully engineered, manufactured, and assembled using proven components and industry-recognized practices to ensure consistent performance in demanding environments. The Mechanical Designer is responsible for the detailed design and 3D modeling of switchgear and power distribution products. Working under the technical guidance of the Mechanical Engineering Lead, this role transforms high-level concepts into manufacturing-ready drawing packages. The Designer ensures all outputs are accurate, feasible, and strictly adhere to RIC Power /Panelmatic design standards and Quality Management System (QMS). Job Responsibilities: Create and maintain 3D models, parts, assemblies, and construction drawings using SolidWorks Generate accurate bills of materials (BOMs) to support manufacturing, procurement, and costing Work within established drawing standards, document control procedures, and PDM systems Maintain and update existing parts and assembly drawings, converting them into fabrication-ready drawings for production Review mechanical designs for manufacturability, cost effectiveness, tolerance stack-up, and ease of assembly Participate in internal design reviews and contribute practical, production-focused solutions Collaborate closely with electrical designers and engineers to ensure proper mechanical–electrical integration Apply applicable codes and standards, including CSA, UL, IEEC, and internal company standards Ensure mechanical designs support regulatory compliance and safety requirements Work with the production team to develop assembly details, work instructions, and build sequences for complex assemblies review vendor drawings and technical documentation for accuracy and compatibility Interact with vendors and suppliers to integrate purchased components into designs Support engineering change processes (ECR/ECO) and maintain accurate revision control Assist with troubleshooting and resolving design-related issues during fabrication, assembly, and testing Provide informal technical guidance and knowledge sharing to junior designers as required. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy Strong proficiency with SolidWorks or a comparable 3D CAD platform Proven experience with sheet metal design and industrial enclosure fabrication Experience designing structural members, frames, and heavy-duty assemblies Solid understanding of manufacturing processes Knowledge of tolerance stack-ups, fit, and function Ability to interpret electrical schematics and understand interface requirements Experience working within PDM/PLM systems (e.g., SolidWorks PDM) Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for BOMs, calculations, and engineering data tracking Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills Proactive problem-solving mindset with a focus on practical solutions Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment Asset: Experience with FEA analysis (static and/or dynamic) Engineering degree or technical diploma (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, AScT) Eligibility or registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) as a P.Eng. or EIT is an asset 3- 5 years of experience in a mechanical and/or electrical manufacturing environment Demonstrated ability to produce mechanical general arrangement (GA) drawings and detailed part and assembly drawings Experience with large industrial equipment, custom-engineered products, or electrical enclosures Experience in medium voltage switchgear or power distribution equipment Health, Dental, Vision coverage RRSP matching program Tuition reimbursement Paid time-off Company events
