Working for Pembina means working safely. Overview: Join Pembina’s Operations team at the Empress Gas Plant as an Operator. Reporting to the Supervisor, Empress, Vantage & Burstall, you will help ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant facilities while contributing to production performance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role follows a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, including both days and nights.Part of Pembina’s Transmission & Extraction Operations, the Empress Gas Plant is a premier natural gas liquids processing facility located near the Alberta-Saskatchewan border. The site includes a 1.2 Bcf/d extraction plant, NGL fractionation, propane rail loading, ethane cavern storage, and truck loading operations, providing employees the opportunity to work in a complex, world-class processing environment. Pembina’s Transmission and Extraction infrastructure is designed to connect natural gas supply with downstream demand through a network of pipelines, straddle plants, extraction facilities, and transportation assets. The company plays a critical role in extracting and transporting ethane, propane, butane, and other natural gas liquids that support petrochemical, industrial, and export markets. Strategic growth projects, including the proposed Yellowhead Extraction Plant and pipeline expansions, are expected to further enhance Pembina’s ability to deliver integrated energy solutions and support long-term customer growth.Responsibilities may include but not limited to: Champion Pembina’s Zero by Choice safety culture and Life Saving Rules by embedding physical, psychological, and cyber safety into all work practices while taking personal accountability to maintain compliance, support audit readiness, proactively identify risks, and protect our people, assets, and data; Participate in plant commissioning, startup, shutdown, and operational readiness activities, ensuring equipment and processes are transitioned safely and efficiently into service; Safely start up, operate, monitor, optimize, and shut down unit operations and facility systems while maintaining a thorough understanding of plant processes, operating parameters, and equipment performance; Continuously monitor plant conditions, identify process abnormalities or upsets, and apply sound technical judgment to troubleshoot issues, assess risk, and implement timely corrective actions to maintain safe and reliable operations; Prioritize operational activities and respond effectively to changing plant conditions, balancing routine responsibilities, emergent issues, and production requirements in a dynamic, fast-paced environment; Coordinate maintenance activities by identifying equipment deficiencies, communicating repair priorities, and partnering with maintenance and technical teams to minimize operational impacts and maximize equipment reliability; Utilize operating data, field observations, and process knowledge to identify opportunities to improve plant performance, reliability, efficiency, and cost effectiveness, and actively contribute recommendations during operations and team meetings; Develop and maintain a broad understanding of facility equipment, operating procedures, and process systems while demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning and expanding technical expertise; Participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses, hazard assessments, and corrective action development to strengthen operational performance and support a culture of continuous improvement; Maintain accurate operating logs, documentation, and reports to support regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and effective communication across shifts and work groups; Demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail, sound decision-making, and a high standard of work quality; Foster effective working relationships with operations, maintenance, engineering, and support teams to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient facility performance; Promote a strong safety culture by adhering to Pembina's safety standards, participating in safety initiatives, and proactively identifying and addressing hazards; and Support and contribute to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace where collaboration, respect, and a sense of belonging enable individuals and teams to perform at their best. Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who have completed their 2nd Class Steam Ticket registered in Alberta or a 3rd Class Steam Ticket who is actively working towards 2nd Class certification; Industry experience in Cryogenic – Extraction Plant, Fractionation, or Cogeneration experience would be an asset; Panel and Distributed Control System (DCS) experience, with demonstrated ability to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize plant performance would be an asset; Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development, with a willingness to expand technical knowledge, adapt to new technologies, and strengthen operational expertise; Proven ability to effectively manage competing priorities, balancing planned work, emerging operational issues, production requirements, and team commitments while maintaining focus on safety and reliability; Strong troubleshooting, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess situations, prioritize actions, and respond effectively in a fast-paced operating environment; Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across operations, maintenance, engineering, and support teams; Ability to remain flexible and adaptable in a dynamic workplace, embracing changing priorities, new responsibilities, and evolving operational requirements; Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and comfortable learning and utilizing various business systems, digital tools, and operational technologies; and Valid Class 5 Driver's License required. This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” and so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing which includes testing for marijuana metabolites. You may also be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract.The successful candidate must live within 100 km of Pembina Empress Facility. The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position.
