The Opportunity We're looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer - Substation to join our engineering team. In this role, you will lead the design and engineering of high-voltage substation projects, supporting everything from concept development through detailed engineering, construction support, commissioning, and startup. If you enjoy solving complex engineering challenges, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and mentoring junior engineers, this role offers meaningful technical work, diverse project exposure, and opportunities for long-term professional growth. #phasorinclusive #highvoltage What You'll Do Complete and authenticate outdoor substation design packages for voltage levels ranging from 25 kV to 240 kV, including layouts, plot plans, bus elevations, grounding, cable layouts, and control building electrical design Perform engineering calculations and studies, including grounding, lightning, lighting, AC/DC load studies, station service transformer and battery bank sizing, insulation coordination, rigid bus studies, and MV cable ampacity calculations using CYMCAP Develop equipment, apparatus, and material specifications suitable for project applications Review vendor documentation and engineering deliverables to ensure constructability, operability, and compliance with project requirements Develop and maintain bills of materials for substation installations Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure overall design integration and project success Provide technical support during construction and commissioning activities as required Collect, interpret, and organize project engineering and vendor information Mentor junior engineers while supporting the development of internal engineering standards and best practices Resolve technical and project challenges while ensuring designs meet client requirements and applicable codes and standards What We're Looking For Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering Eligible for registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) 6–8+ years of high-voltage substation engineering experience Strong understanding of electrical theory, engineering calculations, and power system design principles Experience designing outdoor substations and supporting construction and commissioning activities Working knowledge of Canadian electrical codes and standards, including CEC, CSA, AEUC, and OESC Experience with CYMCAP or similar engineering analysis software is considered an asset Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with exceptional attention to detail Experience mentoring junior engineers and working within multidisciplinary engineering teams Expected annual salary: $130,000–$170,000 (actual compensation may vary based on qualifications, experience, and current market conditions.)
