Porchlight Counselling & Addiction Services is a community centred charity that has been operating in Cambridge and North Dumfries since 1940. Today, we provide accessible counselling, addiction, and housing services helping people build healthier, more connected lives. We are looking for community-minded people to join our volunteer Board of Directors and help guide Porchlight's future. This is an opportunity to contribute your skills, ask good questions, and help set strategic direction. WHAT DOES A BOARD MEMBER DO? The Board governs Porchlight's affairs and provides oversight, accountability and strategic direction, while delegating day-to-day operations to the Executive Director. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR We welcome people with a range of backgrounds and experiences and are particularly interested in those with knowledge and experience related to: • Finance, accounting or business • Law and governance • Fundraising, communications or marketing • Technology or special events • Mental health, addictions or social services • Community leadership and advocacy • Lived or living experience Prior Board experience is not required. THE COMMITMENT Board members serve two-year, renewable, terms The full board meets monthly, for approximately 1.5 hours, with some reading preparation before meetings. Members can expect to be asked to join at least one sub-committee (ie. finance, governance, fundraising, human resources) Members attend Porchlight’s public events and may be asked to represent Porchlight at outside events as well. A total time commitment of up to 8-10 hours per month can be anticipated. New board members will receive training, mentorship, and ongoing support. Candidates should be community-minded individuals, preferably with expertise in finance, law, marketing, or social services. Prior board experience is not required, but lived experience or community leadership is highly valued.
