The Opportunity Portland Tractor Inc. is looking for a mechanically skilled Shop Technician (Heavy Equipment Mechanic) to join our team in Grande Prairie, Alberta. As the Shop Technician, you will be responsible for completing a variety of heavy equipment repair tasks required by our loyal customers. Essential Duties & Responsibilities As a Shop Technician, your primary responsibilities include: Diagnosing, disassembling, inspecting, repairing, assembling, and testing heavy equipment components Completing assigned work accurately, safely, and within established production schedules with minimal supervision Safely using overhead cranes, rigging equipment, lifting devices, presses, jacks, hammers, and other shop equipment to remove, transport, and install components Documenting repairs and communicating job progress, issues, and status to management Assisting with troubleshooting and problem-solving during the rebuild process Cross-training in other departments and perform additional duties or job functions as needed Required Skills & Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, knowledge and competencies: At least 5 years of experience repairing heavy equipment or diesel equipment Experience with Caterpillar equipment strongly preferred Strong mechanical aptitude with experience performing complete equipment and component rebuilds Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Ability to safely operate shop equipment including overhead cranes, presses, lifting devices, and power tools Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and quality standards Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with team members Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to safety High school diploma or GED Valid driver's license Benefits & Perks Portland Tractor Inc. is proud to offer competitive compensation and flexible benefits coverage for all eligible employees: Company paid medical health care plan for you and your dependents Dental plan, vision plan, and prescription drug coverage Annual health care spending account Life insurance, short term disability, and travel insurance Sick leave plan – 100% employer paid Employee assistance programs RRSP matching Ongoing professional development opportunities The base pay range for this role is: $47.00 to $60.00 per hour, depending on exprience.
