Senior Java Engineer (Architect / Technical Lead) Agentic AI Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid 3 days/week onsite) Job Type: 6-Month Contract (Extension up to 12 months possible) or Full-Time (FTE) About The Role We are seeking highly experienced, hands-on Senior Java Engineers with strong Software Engineering, Architecture, and Technical Leadership experience to join an innovation-driven team building next-generation Agentic AI solutions. This is not a traditional feature development role. We are looking for engineers who can independently take a business problem or product idea, evaluate technology options, architect the solution, build production-quality software, and deliver end-to-end outcomes with minimal direction. You will thrive in an environment where the destination is clear, but the implementation path is not. Success in this role requires strong technical judgment, hands-on coding expertise, and the ability to leverage modern AI-powered development tools. Key Responsibilities Technology Evaluation Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, AI platforms, and engineering approaches. Design and build proof-of-concepts (POCs) and prototypes. Perform technical assessments and provide Go/No-Go recommendations based on scalability, feasibility, security, compliance, and maintainability. Product Development Collaborate with product and engineering teams to develop innovative products and services. Design, develop, test, and integrate early-stage and beta solutions. Support pilot deployments, collect feedback, analyze results, and help determine production readiness. Software Engineering Design, architect, develop, test, and deploy scalable Java backend applications. Build secure, high-performance microservices using modern engineering practices. Own features from concept through production with minimal technical guidance. Evaluate and recommend the most suitable technologies, frameworks, and architectural patterns. Apply AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and software quality. Ensure solutions align with engineering standards, security requirements, and best practices. Required Qualifications 8+ years of hands-on experience in Java backend development. Strong expertise in: Java Spring Boot Microservices Architecture Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale software solutions. Strong software architecture and system design skills. Hands-on experience using AI-powered development tools such as GitHub Copilot and/or Claude. Good understanding of AI/ML concepts and AI-assisted software development. Experience working with Agentic AI, AI agents, agent workflows, AI orchestration, or AI-powered engineering tools. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration abilities. Ability to work independently in ambiguous, fast-paced, innovation-focused environments. Preferred Qualifications Experience developing AI/ML applications or solutions. Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services. Experience with Databricks. Experience building prototypes, proof-of-concepts, and innovation-focused solutions. Exposure to modern AI frameworks, LLMs, or Generative AI applications.

Evaluate emerging technologies and design proof-of-concepts for next-generation Agentic AI solutions. Architect, develop, and deploy scalable Java backend microservices while leading technical decision-making processes.

Requires over 8 years of hands-on Java backend development experience with expertise in Spring Boot and microservices. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in using AI-powered development tools and experience with AI agent workflows or orchestration.
