About Qualicum School District Qualicum School District is centrally situated on east Vancouver Island and covers the area of Nanoose Bay to Bowser and spans from Errington across the Strait of Georgia to Lasqueti Island. We serve a student population of approximately 4700 students. Qualicum School District consists of eight elementary schools (Grades K-7), two secondary schools (Grade 8-12), an alternate school (PASS/Woodwinds) and a Distributed Learning program to support home-learning families called the Collaborative Education Alternative Program (CEAP). False Bay School on Lasqueti Island is entirely off grid with an immense solar project recently completed. Qualicum School District also embraces many community organizations through various school programs. Qualicum School District is recruiting on call / casual custodians. Spares shall make themselves available for calls from the dispatch clerk Monday to Friday during a specified period of time which will be no longer than two (2) hours. This position has no guarantee of hours. Spares are dispatched in rotational order to provide replacement support in the event of an absence. Spare Employees are paid 4% in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of statutory holidays, plus 6% in lieu of vacation. JOB TITLE: Custodian JOB FUNCTION: An employee in this classification ensures that students and staff are provided with a clean, safe and secure environment in which to learn and work. REPORTING TO: Director of Operations or designate. Illustrative Examples Of Work Carries out the assigned custodial responsibilities in accordance with the established routines safety protocols and procedures. Maintains the security and order of the facility, including alarming the building at the end of the shift. Provides access for approved community groups. Moves furniture within buildings as required for various activities as assigned by the supervisor. Performs minor maintenance and repairs, e.g., soap and towel dispensers, light bulb replacements and equipment. Reports items for work order submissions to the AMO or designated site administrator. Maintains an adequate inventory of custodial supplies at the site. Performs other assigned job-related duties within this classification. Required Abilities And Qualifications Grade 10 or equivalent. Successful completion of, or willingness to obtain a Certified Building Service Worker Level 1 at a recognized institution within six months. Six months work experience in an institutional or commercial operation. Demonstrated ability to perform and learn manual tasks, including the lifting of medium heavy loads, working overhead and working on a ladder. Good interpersonal, oral and written skills. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff and public. Note: Positions requiring a Class 5 BC Driver’s License will be so designated. Requirements
