Senior Node.js Developer Canada Remote Role Overview: We are seeking a Senior Node.js Developer with 5–8+ years of software development experience to design, develop, and maintain scalable server-side applications. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in JavaScript, backend architecture, and experience building high-performance APIs and microservices. Job Responsibilities Develop, test, and maintain server-side applications using Node.js Design and implement RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL services Build scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems Collaborate with front-end developers, product managers, and QA teams Integrate third-party services, APIs, and databases Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code Implement security and data protection best practices Participate in code reviews and technical discussions Required Qualifications 5-8+ years of backend development experience, including 3–5+ years with Node.js and strong proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+) Experience building scalable APIs (REST required, GraphQL a plus) and working with asynchronous/event-driven systems Hands-on experience with Node.js frameworks (Express.js required, NestJS preferred) Solid experience with databases: relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis), plus ORM/ODM tools Strong understanding of authentication & security (JWT, OAuth, RBAC, API security best practices) Experience designing microservices and distributed systems, including caching and messaging (Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ) Familiarity with cloud platforms and DevOps practices (AWS/Azure/GCP, Docker, CI/CD pipelines) Proficiency in Git and collaborative development workflows Experience with testing frameworks (Jest, Mocha) and writing unit/integration tests Strong knowledge of performance optimization, debugging, and monitoring in backend systems Soft Skills Leadership and mentoring experience Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Excellent communication and collaboration Ability to drive technical decisions and take ownership

What you’ll do

The Senior Node.js Developer will develop, test, and maintain server-side applications using Node.js, and design and implement RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL services. They will collaborate with front-end developers, product managers, and QA teams to build scalable and high-performance backend systems.

Requirements

Candidates should have 5-8+ years of backend development experience, with 3-5+ years specifically in Node.js and strong proficiency in JavaScript. Experience with building scalable APIs, databases, and understanding of security best practices is also required.
