Instructional Designer

Reporting to the Assistant Dean, Graduate Studies and Professional Programs, the Instructional Design Support Administrator will use Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to provide proficient support in the development and delivery of online courses. Working with other members of the Educational Development (EdDev) team, the incumbent will contribute to the development and refinement of course modules, such as files, activities, assessments, multimedia content, and gradebooks, within the Learning Management System (LMS); collaborate with instructors to provide orientation, training, and best practices for using LMS tools; and develop clear and practical how-to documentation for faculty and staff. In addition, the incumbent may oversee casual staff and/or work study students, support project coordination within the course development team, troubleshoot technical issues, and contribute ideas that enhance the overall online learning experience in a rapidly evolving digital environment. The successful candidate will have strong technical skills, an aptitude for learning and applying new technologies, and a commitment to staying ahead of trends in educational technology. They will bring knowledge of AI-enabled tools, multimedia production, including video filming, editing, and post-production, as well as quality assurance processes to ensure content is accurate, accessible, and engaging. This position acts as the project manager for course development, including implementing and ensuring timelines, outlining course development plans and guiding the development process. This position provides subject matter expertise and leadership regarding courses to be re-offered or developed, including objectives, rubrics, design features, content and format. This position collaborates with subject matter experts, editors, web developers etc. on instructional design projects. This position also provides guidance, training and/or expertise to team members, industry partners, students, writers, faculty and/or management on tools and processes. What you will do • Acts as the project manager for course development, including implementing and ensuring timelines, outlining course development plans and guiding the development process. • Provides subject matter expertise and leadership regarding courses to be re-offered or developed, including objectives, rubrics, design features, content and format. • Collaborates with subject matter experts, editors, web developers etc. on instructional design projects. • Creates and monitors budgets. • Provides guidance, training and/or expertise to team members, industry partners, students, writers, faculty and/or management on tools and processes. • Collects and analyzes data, and makes recommendations for improvements to courses and/or to gauge course success rates. • Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit. Required Education • Master's Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires a professional designation, certification, or other qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields. o in education preferred. or o in adult education preferred. Required Experience • More than 5 years of experience. o Experience with learning management system functionalities and standards is considered an asset. o Experience with rapid eLearning development tools or other applicable emerging learning technologies is considered an asset. o Experience in planning and/or managing projects considered an asset. o Experience in process planning, development and/or mapping is considered an asset. o Experience in designing and delivering academic support via digital environments considered an asset o Experience working with diverse populations/equity deserving groups considered an asset. o Experience working at a post-secondary education institution considered an asset. o Experience working in a comparable client-focused environment considered an asset o Experience in writing, interviewing, reviewing, editing and/or proofreading internal and/or external communications and documents considered an asset (e.g., social media, policy manuals, newsletters, handbooks, legal documents, forms/templates, blogs, training/reference materials, technical documents, webinars, etc.). o Previous experience developing and delivering workshops considered an asset. Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience. Acknowledges and respects diverse cultural traditions, abilities and beliefs.

The Instructional Designer will act as the project manager for course development, ensuring timelines and guiding the development process. They will collaborate with subject matter experts and provide training and support to faculty and staff.

Candidates must have a Master's Degree or equivalent and over 5 years of relevant experience, particularly in instructional design and educational technology. Knowledge of learning management systems and experience in project management are considered assets.
