POSITION: Physician Assistant DEPARTMENT: Emergency Department HOURS: Approximately 75.0 Bi-weekly Hours CONDITIONS: Part-Time SHIFTS: Days / Evenings / Nights / Weekends, 7.5 hours per shift (subject to change) WAGE RATE: $49.33/hr (Minimum) to $64.50/hr (Maximum) CLOSING DATE: October 1, 2026 Reporting to the Chief of Staff and the Director of the Emergency Department (ED) and under the supervision of the primary supervising physician(s) and in accordance with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Physician Assistant (PA) works collaboratively with ED physicians to support patient flow, conduct clinical assessment, formulate treatment plans and perform procedures aligned to medical directives. The PA participates in departmental and hospital-wide activities that model and promote a safe and healthy patient-centered environment and contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives in keeping with the organization's mission. RESPONSIBILITIES: Provision of Clinical Care – Emergency Department (under the supervision of a physician): Provides optimal, ethical, and patient-centered ED care. Completes comprehensive health history and physical assessments of patients. Works collaboratively with patients, families, physicians, and other interdisciplinary health care team members to develop a care plan. Implements and documents the plan of care for the patient. Identifies the need for diagnostic tests and procedures and orders/ completes tests and procedures within the scope of practice and per delegation and medical directives. Collects, interprets, and analyses data from multiple sources and uses this data to formulate a medical diagnosis within the scope of practice. Suggests pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies to supervising physicians. Monitors patient progress and evaluates and revises the plan of care based on patient response to treatment. Demonstrates leadership skills, expertise, and in-depth knowledge base consistent with PA role. Acts as a resource to the interdisciplinary team. Provides education to patients and family members, as required, to optimize patient health and well-being. Performs other tasks within the supervising physician’s scope of practice that the physician deems the PA qualified to complete. Initiates interventions to stabilize a patient following delegations from a supervising physician. Communication, Collaboration, and Medical Documentation: Develops therapeutic relationships with patients and families by: Establishing relationships of trust, respect, honesty, and empathy. Respecting patient confidentiality, privacy, and autonomy. Listening effectively. Provides relevant information and explanations, including a proposed treatment plan, to the supervising physician and seeks further direction where appropriate. Provides education to patients, families, and other health providers as appropriate to the clinical setting Communicate with other members of the health care team and other hospital departments, verbally, in writing, and electronically when required Provides counseling on preventative health care Coordinates internal/external referrals to facilitate best clinical practice. Influences practice by stimulating critical thinking and applying the best available evidence. Maintains clear, accurate, and appropriate records of the patient care plan, including: -Admission notes, progress notes, and discharge notes as needed -Dictated records as appropriate -Consultation requests -Other types of documentation as required by the particular setting Documents in accordance with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario standards Respects team ethics, including confidentiality, resource allocation, and professionalism Demonstrates a respectful attitude toward other colleagues and inter-professional team members. Demonstrates leadership skills, expertise, and in-depth knowledge base consistent with the PA role. Facilitates own professional development and maintains clinical competency through formal educational programs and monitoring opportunities with colleagues. REQUIREMENTS: Graduate from a MOHLTC-approved Physician Assistant program (including 2026 Graduate of the McMaster University or Consortium of PA Education program) Eligible for Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada certification Registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario in good standing Current BCLS PREFERRED: Experience in an Emergency Department setting preferred ACLS EXPERIENCE: Experience with shared decision-making and leadership techniques Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based decision-making Effective problem-solving skills Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development Excellent oral and written communication Creative and flexible problem solving and crucial thinking skills Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative practice model with an interdisciplinary team Demonstrated change management skills. Requirements

Applicants must graduate from a Ministry of Health-approved Physician Assistant program, be eligible for Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada certification, hold good-standing registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and have current BCLS. Emergency Department experience and ACLS are preferred; the posting also emphasizes evidence-based decision-making, communication, collaborative practice, problem-solving, and professional development.
