Job Summary The Electrical Estimator / Engineer plays a key role in supporting business growth by preparing detailed estimates and competitive bids while ensuring project requirements, risks, timelines, and costs are accurately identified and evaluated. The successful candidate will support all stages of the estimating process, from opportunity review and site visits through tender submission and project handover. Key Responsibilities Prepare detailed quantity take-offs, cost estimates, tenders, budgets, and proposals for electrical construction projects. Review drawings, specifications, contracts, utility standards, and tender documents to determine project scope and requirements. Perform material, labour, equipment, and subcontractor take-offs and pricing. Solicit, review, and analyze quotations from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors. Develop labour productivity rates and construction cost estimates. Identify project risks, opportunities, and value-engineering solutions. Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project reviews as required. Prepare Requests for Information (RFIs), clarifications, and supporting tender documentation. Monitor market pricing, labour productivity trends, and material costs. Track estimate progress and maintain accurate bid documentation and project files. Assist with project budgeting, change order pricing, and cost analysis. Support the transition of successful bids into active projects and provide detailed handover documentation to project management and field operations teams. Ensure compliance with client requirements, contract specifications, regulatory obligations, quality standards, and company Health & Safety requirements. Provide technical support throughout project execution as required. Mentor junior estimators and assist in developing estimating procedures, standards, and best practices. Preferred Project Experience Experience estimating one or more of the following project types is considered a strong asset: Overhead electrical distribution systems Underground distribution systems Utility relocations and capital projects Transformer installations Civil and electrical infrastructure projects Streetlighting systems Electrical substations Transmission and distribution line construction Design-build electrical projects Qualifications Required Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Electrical Engineering Degree, Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma, or equivalent combination of education and industry experience. Minimum 5 years of electrical estimating experience within the Ontario Utility Field. Minimum 5 years of electrical field experience, preferably within utility, high-voltage, industrial, or commercial construction. Strong understanding of electrical systems, Ontario utility construction practices, codes, and safety requirements. Experience interpreting electrical drawings, specifications, and contract documents. Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple bids and competing deadlines simultaneously. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Assets CET designation through OACETT. Experience with Hydro One, Alectra Utilities, Elexicon Energy, Hydro Ottawa, Toronto Hydro, Burlington Hydro, or other Ontario Local Distribution Companies (LDCs). Knowledge of ESA requirements, utility construction standards, and industry specifications. Experience with estimating software and project management platforms. Project management experience. Required Certifications Valid Ontario Driver's Licence with a clean driving record. Worker Health & Safety Awareness Training. WHMIS Certification. Standard First Aid & CPR/AED. Requirements
Requires a minimum of 5 years of electrical estimating and field experience within the Ontario utility sector. Candidates must hold a relevant engineering degree, diploma, or professional certification such as P.Eng or CET.
