Job details

The Opportunity Our client, a multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm, is seeking an Intermediate Civil Engineer to join its Community Development team. This role offers the opportunity to lead the planning, design, and delivery of a diverse range of land development and municipal infrastructure projects, working alongside a collaborative team of engineers, planners, landscape architects, and other technical professionals. The successful candidate will take ownership of project deliverables, coordinate with clients and external stakeholders, and contribute to projects spanning residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, multi-family, and recreational developments. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong civil engineer who enjoys balancing hands-on design work with project coordination, client relationship management, and mentorship of junior team members. The position offers a flexible work environment, including hybrid working arrangements, as well as opportunities for professional development and career progression within a supportive, multidisciplinary team. Key Responsibilities Civil Design and Technical Delivery: Lead the preparation of engineering deliverables throughout the planning, detailed design, tendering, and construction phases. This includes design calculations, engineering drawings, technical reports, specifications, cost estimates, and other project documentation. Community Development Projects: Coordinate and develop civil engineering designs for a variety of land development projects, including site grading, stormwater management systems, roadway geometry, and municipal water, sanitary, and storm servicing infrastructure. Project Management: Oversee the day-to-day delivery of small to mid-sized projects, monitoring scope, schedules, budgets, resource requirements, and deliverable quality while working collaboratively with senior project management staff. Approvals and Stakeholder Coordination: Prepare and coordinate development applications, engineering submissions, and permit approvals while liaising with municipalities, utility providers, regulatory agencies, and other relevant stakeholders. Client and Partner Relationships: Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, contractors, municipal representatives, and project partners through clear communication, responsive service, and sound technical guidance. Construction Administration: Support construction-phase activities, including field reviews, contract administration, responding to requests for information, reviewing contractor submissions, and monitoring construction progress and conformance with design requirements. Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Provide guidance, technical direction, and quality reviews for junior engineers, Engineers-in-Training (EITs), and technologists, helping to develop team capabilities and maintain high engineering standards. Business Development: Contribute to proposals, project fee estimates, client presentations, and other business development initiatives. Support client retention and the continued growth of the Community Development practice. Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with professionals across civil engineering, community planning, landscape architecture, transportation, and building-related disciplines to deliver coordinated, practical solutions. Engineering Software and Standards: Utilize Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and other relevant design tools to prepare and review engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with applicable design standards, regulations, and project requirements. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in the applicable province, or eligibility for registration. Approximately 5–10 years of relevant experience in civil engineering consulting, with a focus on land development, community development, or municipal infrastructure. Demonstrated experience preparing civil engineering designs and construction documentation for residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, or mixed-use developments. Strong technical knowledge of grading, stormwater management, roadway design, and municipal servicing infrastructure. Experience coordinating engineering submissions, development approvals, and permitting processes with municipalities and other regulatory authorities. Familiarity with project management principles, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, resource coordination, and quality assurance. Proficiency in Civil 3D and AutoCAD, with the ability to prepare and review detailed engineering drawings. Experience supporting construction administration, field reviews, and coordination with contractors is considered an asset. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, multidisciplinary teams, and external stakeholders. Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects. An interest in mentoring junior staff, contributing to team development, and participating in business development activities. What Our Client Offers Flexible working hours and a hybrid work model. A collaborative, multidisciplinary working environment with opportunities to work alongside experienced professionals across several engineering and design disciplines. Diverse project exposure across residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and community development sectors. Opportunities to take ownership of projects and develop project management and client relationship skills. Professional development support and opportunities for continued career growth. A supportive team culture that values technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and long-term professional development. A competitive compensation and benefits package, commensurate with experience. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a motivated civil engineering professional who combines strong design capabilities with practical project coordination skills and a client-focused approach. They are comfortable taking responsibility for technical deliverables, managing day-to-day project requirements, and collaborating with a range of internal and external stakeholders. They also enjoy sharing their knowledge with junior colleagues and are interested in growing their project management and leadership capabilities within a multidisciplinary consulting environment.
