About

The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) was established by the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) Council in October 2012 to design, build, steward, and operate modern community recreation, sport, and event facilities. It was officially incorporated under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act on June 10, 2013. In close collaboration with the RMWB and the communities it serves, the RRC builds on the success of MacDonald Island Park Canada’s largest community recreation and events facility to deliver high-quality programs, services, and experiences across the region. Through strong partnerships and a shared commitment to community well-being, the RRC supports initiatives that bring people together and strengthen community connections. Guided by core values of collaboration, safety, sustainability, innovation, and diversity, the RRC is committed to creating inclusive, welcoming spaces where people of all ages and backgrounds can thrive. These values inform facility design, service delivery, and community engagement, ensuring responsiveness to evolving needs while fostering a sense of belonging. Aligned with the RMWB Municipal Development Plan, the RRC continues to expand its services by working alongside sport, recreation, and community organizations. This collaborative approach ensures consistent, high-quality experiences while remaining adaptable to the unique needs of each community. The RRC operates facilities across the region, including MacDonald Island Park in Fort McMurray (home to the Suncor Community Leisure Centre, Miskanaw Golf Club, and SMS Equipment Place), the Anzac Recreation Centre presented by CNOOC, the Sonny Flett Aquatic Centre in Fort Chipewyan, and the Conklin Multiplex in Conklin. In partnership with the RMWB and its communities, the RRC remains committed to the belief that together, we create community.
