Situated within the shared, unceded territory of the L̓il̓wat7úl (Líl̓wat People) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish People), the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is a vibrant destination resort community, local government organization and leader in providing municipal programs, services, progressive planning and infrastructure. The Roads department of the Infrastructure Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Equipment Operator III. Reporting to the Supervisor of Roads, Drainage and Flood Protection, this position offers 76.5 hours bi-weekly starting November 1, 2026, until March 31, 2027. Our winter Roads program operates around the clock, seven days a week, with day shifts from 4:30 AM to 1:30 PM and night shifts from 3:45 PM to 12:45 AM. The Equipment Operator III’s role is to safely operate, service, and maintain snow clearing equipment and to perform tasks in the maintenance and construction of winter road projects. The Equipment Operator III will provide the public with a safe and efficient transportation network while helping to minimize flood risk. Qualified candidates will have a grade 12 diploma supplemented by 2-4 years of snow removal experience, in addition to 1-3 years of experience in a similar role operating (in adverse weather conditions) and servicing heavy equipment including dump and plow trucks, loaders, graders and backhoes. Candidates must also have extensive knowledge of the tools, machinery and safe work practices related to road worksites; possess a record of safe and efficient operation of equipment; considerable knowledge of local roadways and boundaries; and have the physical strength and stamina to perform medium to heavy outdoor work in all weather conditions. The successful candidate is customer service focused and is a strong team player who demonstrates excellent communication skills, with proven abilities to effectively solve problems. The successful candidate demonstrates commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace within the organization and will create and maintain effective working relationships with others while contributing to a positive work environment. The starting wage for this position is $38.34 an hour. As a requirement of the position, the successful candidate must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license with air endorsement and must provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract prior to beginning employment.
