The RMOW is a high performance municipal organization and significant tourism economy serving a community of 15,000 permanent residents and over three million annual visitors. The Recreation department of the Community Engagement and Cultural Services has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Fitness Instructor. Reporting to the Fitness Studio Programmer, this position offers varying hours starting as soon as possible. The Fitness Instructor’s role is to lead and facilitate group fitness classes offered by the RMOW to the public. The Fitness Instructor is responsible for planning the class format, setting up the room, taking attendance, and leading the participants through safe and fun progression of exercises. This position will facilitate circuit, low impact, interval training, spin, strength and cardio classes and other recreation programs as required. The Fitness Instructor will be skilled at managing groups of patrons of various ages and abilities and provide a safe, effective, and fun exercise environment that meets the needs and expectations of the participants. They will be able to effectively communicate and demonstrate the exercise program to be implemented and are able to adapt and change the exercises if needed. The Fitness Instructor is knowledgeable in their field of expertise, can demonstrate the exercises to perfect form, and is able to detect and correct participants’ exercise technique. Qualified candidates will have the BCRPA Group Fitness certification or equivalent supplemented by a minimum of 1 year of experience teaching group fitness and hold standard first aid with CPR/AED. The ideal candidate is energetic, positive, self-motivating, punctual, and able to work well with little direct supervision. The successful candidate shows commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace within their team and will create and maintain effective working relationships while contributing to a positive environment. The starting wage for this role is $30.57 per hour. In addition to the hourly wage, casual employees at the RMOW receive 12% of their regular earnings in lieu of employee benefits. Instructors are compensated for the time required before and after each class to prepare and clean up. As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must provide a satisfactory Police Information Check prior to beginning employment. Requirements

Candidates must hold a BCRPA Group Fitness certification or equivalent and possess at least one year of teaching experience. A valid standard first aid certificate with CPR/AED is also required.
