Job Description RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS). Position summaryThis job posting is for a Research Assistant in Dr Myriam Srour and Dr Andrea Accogli’s research laboratories at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre. Our adjoining laboratories investigate the genetic basis and disease mechanisms of rare neurogenetic disorders. We combine genomic technologies with functional studies in cellular and animal models to discover novel disease genes, characterize genetic variants, and investigate disease mechanisms. As our research programs expand, we are also developing patient-derived neuronal models and exploring therapeutic approaches. Department / Research Program: Child Health and Human Development General Duties Perform basic genetic manipulations, including PCR, Western blot, analyses of Sanger sequencing and exome sequencing, validation of variants, RT-PCR, RT-qPCR, RNA-seq experiments, single cell/nucleus RNA sequencing etc. Conduct cell culture experiments, transfection studies, and cellular mRNA and protein isolation and analysis. Conduct molecular biology techniques including plasmid DNA preparation, DNA mutagenesis, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing and vector construction Take care of the day-to-day management of the laboratory, including ordering materials and reagents, support for the supervision of students, etc. Website of the organization https://rimuhc.ca/en Education / Experience Education: Master's degree Field of Study: Molecular biology, genetics Work Experience: The candidate should have a strong background that includes experience with tissue culture, and molecular biology. Required Skills Advanced knowledge of oral and written French is required. An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires regular and complex contact with researchers or international students who are exclusively proficient in English. The position also requires complex writing or in-depth analysis of documents in English related to a research project.
