Job summary
Romspen is a leading Canadian non-bank mortgage lender specializing in commercial and industrial real estate mortgages. Our investments are comprised mostly of commercial and industrial first mortgages on properties primarily across Canada and the United States. We provide customized mortgage solutions for term, bridge and construction financing. The current overall real estate mortgage portfolio is $3.1 billion. Over the past 25 years we have invested over $8 billion in over 1000 real estate mortgages and have consistently earned strong absolute cash yields to investors. Reporting to the Controller, Foreclosure / Acquired Properties, the Senior Accountant is responsible for providing timely and accurate financial reporting for an assigned portfolio of properties, as well as overseeing the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the portfolio. They will operate in a professional and fast-paced environment to meet the reporting demands amidst daily funding deadlines and a constantly evolving industry. Responsibilities Prepare financial statements and reports for companies within the portfolio. Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end procedures. Prepare financial statements for tax filings – US and Canadian. Prepare reports for the annual audit. Overall responsible in maintaining integrity and accuracy of property records. Coordinate authorization of funding requests and construction draws. Prepare wire payments of properties. Prepare monthly bank reconciliation of the properties. Help provide innovative solutions to accounting and operational matters. Overall responsible in maintaining integrity and accuracy of property records. Filing of HST returns. Prepare monthly cash forecast for the portfolio and request funding from the fund. Act as back up to other members of the accounting team. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications At least three years of progressive accounting experience. Post secondary degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration. CPA designation or working towards an accounting designation is preferred. Real Estate accounting experience an asset. Experience in Canadian / US tax reporting and preparation of T5013 and T3 slips. Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel (ability to create and maintain clearly formatted worksheets). Experience in Yardi would be an asset. Strong communication, organization and problem-solving skills. Ability to think analytically and conduct independent investigations. Results oriented and the ability to work under tight deadlines and manage competing priorities. The ability to continuously learn about commercial real estate and financial operations. Requirements
Candidates need at least three years of progressive accounting experience and a degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration. A CPA designation and experience with Canadian/US tax reporting or Yardi software are preferred assets.
