The Opportunity Job classification: A5133 - Library Technician I # of positions: 1 Hourly Rate: $25.35 Position End Date: April 30, 2026 Deadline to apply: 4:00PM, September 14, 2026 Reporting to the User Services Coordinator, Library Casual Staff are members of the Reg Erhardt Library’s User Services Team, focused on providing frontline library and information services to students, staff, faculty and visitors to SAIT, consistent with the Library’s policies. The ideal candidate can make decisions independently, balancing operational needs with patron-focused service. They are also comfortable working in a public space serving a diverse community of library users, during evening and weekend hours when they may have limited support from specialist library staff or other departments. \n How you'll contribute Library casual staff are responsible for: • Responding to reference queries. • Guiding users through in the use of Library Search, e-Resources and other information tools. • Providing circulation and client account services using our ILS. • Providing users of our tools and resources with basic technical assistance. • Informing users about library resources, policies and processes. • Enforcing library policies regarding food, noise and use of library spaces. • Directing users to appropriate SAIT services and resources. • Opening and closing the library. • Making appropriate referrals to library specialists or external service points. • Additional duties may be assigned to you depending on the library’s business needs. Qualifications Necessary Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Training • Library Technician Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • Extensive knowledge of contemporary reference and information sources. • Strong knowledge of library operations, systems and best practices. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to resolve problems and make decisions independently. • Ability to meet a variety of users and needs with competence and empathy. Employment Terms Successful applicants will be assigned 1 - 2 shifts per week, covering weekday evenings (3:00 pm – 9:45 pm) and Saturdays (9:30 am – 4:15 pm). However, they may also be expected to cover additional shifts at short notice or during weekdays to support the library’s business needs.
