Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre is a feminist, anti-oppressive, decolonizing rape crisis centre operating on unceded Coast Salish Territories in Vancouver, BC since 1982. Salal provides support services to survivors of sexualized violence with shared experiences of gendered oppression: women, Two-Spirit, trans and/or non-binary people. Salal's work can be summarized in two key actions we take: we support survivors, and we shift society. We support survivors through our 24-Hour Crisis and Information Line, support accessing the medical and legal systems, and one-to-one and group counselling. We also conduct a program that specifically serves Indigenous survivors and family members of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two Spirit People, as well as a program for gender diverse survivors. We shift society through our educational outreach program, working with teachers, students, and service providers to change the rape culture we live in. Volunteers will provide crisis support to survivors and participate in community outreach or support group activities. Responsibilities include attending mandatory training sessions and monthly meetings to ensure consistent service delivery.
