The Position Saskatoon Tribal Council is looking for a highly motivated, team player with a positive attitude to join the White Buffalo Youth Lodge (WBYL) team as a Youth Worker. Reporting to the Director of WBYL, this position is responsible for delivering daily programs and activities set out by the WBYL Program Coordinators. WBYL is the only First Nations youth center run by First Nations people in the city of Saskatoon. An approach based on traditional First Nations medicine wheel principles guides the planning, development and delivery of programs and services. The Youth Worker is responsible for the delivery, supervision and organization of Fitness, Sport & Recreation, Family Wellness, Youth Leadership, and Cultural programs in order to provide quality service that promote a healthy lifestyle for all members of the community. The Youth Worker will be expected to ensure all directives and services best meet the goals, objectives and strategic direction of WBYL. Responsibilities: * Supervision of children, youth and/or family participating in programming. * Implementing and delivery of programs and activities set out by Program Coordinators on a daily basis. * Provide mentorship, support and guidance to children, youth, and families within specific program areas. * Deliver and fully participate in culturally relevant programs and activities * Provide transportation to and from WBYL program activities as required day/evening/weekend. * Provide intervention & de-escalation practices in dealing with children, youth and families that may be in crisis, ie. Suicidal ideation, altercations (verbal and physical), weapons, etc. * Provide project information, training & workshops, and tours to children, youth and families or STC staff. * Provide support and mentorship to casual, practicum, volunteer and any other person(s) working within WBYL programs and services. * Volunteer, attend, and participate in any functions, feasts, or special events hosted by Saskatoon Tribal Council. * Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times. * Input participant data into the database as required for statistical data and reporting. * Coordinate daily/evening schedule with co-workers to ensure completion of assigned duties. * Provide monthly and statistical reports to Program Coordinators within specific areas of WBYL program delivery ie. Youth Leadership, Recreation, Family Wellness and Culture. * Provide WBYL information to appropriate community agencies for specific need and sharing. * Submit program activity, supply and nutrition lists to relevant Program Coordinator on a need to need basis. * Complete vehicle checks inside and out before and after use and provide basic vehicle maintenance as per policy including cleaning. * Complete donation log book entries as required. * Complete necessary Occupational Health and Safety checks and reports within programs and activities ie. Quarterly Fire Drills, Lock down drills and infectious disease control. * Shall have a general understanding of the Security, Administrative Assistant, Program Coordinator, and Director job roles and their working relationship to each of those colleagues. * Adhere to Saskatoon Tribal Council Policy and Procedure Manual and the WBYL Operations Manual. * Other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by your supervisor or Program Coordinator such as cleaning, preparation of daily snacks, recycling, assisting in the security and safeguarding of children & property, setting up of rooms for functions, and attend all WBYL staff meetings. Education and Experience: * Post-Secondary education in Child and Youth Care or related Human Services Field; * Three (3) years experience working in community programming with children, youth and families. * Experience working with and knowledge of First Nations culture, tradition & values. * Certificate in First Aid and CPR. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Knowledge of urban issues facing First Nations people. * Ability to communicate with children, youth and families. * Ability to actively engage and participate in planned programs and activities. * Good planning and organizational skills. * Good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. * Computer knowledge (Microsoft office, Internet Explorer, Outlook and Publisher). * Ability to provide supervision and actively participate with children and youth. * Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision. * Ability to work within a team. * Knowledge of the political, social and economic objectives of the Saskatoon Tribal Council and of the Dakota, Cree, and Saulteaux cultures will be considered an asset. Other Working Conditions * Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license, a reliable vehicle and meet STC’s insurance requirements; * Must provide a current, original, Canadian Criminal Record Check (CPIC) with vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment * Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays. * Must be able to work in a fast paced and physically demanding environment.

Requirements
