About the role
The Finance Manager, Engineering Capital Projects is responsible for the financial leadership of engineering major capital investments deployed in Kruger divisions. It enforces governance by establishing, monitoring, and maintaining strict compliance with capital investment policies, procedures, and controls. The incumbent ensures that capital allocation decisions, project approvals, and financial reporting adhere to corporate standards and regulatory requirements, supporting disciplined investment and risk management throughout the organization.
Contingent upon project portfolio demands, it will also act as the Financial Lead for entities whilst under the construction phase usually lasting 3 to 4 years and managing the entire financial cycle of Kruger’s major industrial construction projects ($200M to $1B+ in size). It is also set to play a business lead role in the transition of our practices to the new ERP during the implementation.
The incumbent will also coordinate procurement plans and cashflow planning, ensuring that contract execution timelines, payment schedules, and supplier commitments are integrated with project financial objectives. This includes monitoring procurement cycles, validating alignment with approved budgets, and providing visibility on financial impacts to support decision-making and risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Finance Manager, Engineering Capital Projects reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Engineering, with a dotted-line relationship to the Chair of the Capital Appropriation Committee in support of Capital Budgeting and Appropriation Committees exercises.
It also leads a multidisciplinary administrative team supporting major projects, with six direct reports across accounting, procurement and project controls.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Governance & Internal Control
- Evaluate the entity's governance policies, processes, and/or code, and evaluate information and analysis to ensure entity remains compliant with regulatory/compliance requirements.
- Oversee adherence to governance standards by project and site engineering teams.
- Support audit readiness and regulatory compliance for all capital projects.
- In the context of the ERP migration, evaluate the impact of IT/IS risks on enterprise risk and recommend appropriate risk management strategies.
Capital Budgeting
- Develop and consolidate multi-year capital investment plans and financial models across divisions used to evaluate capital budgeting processes and decisions.
- Ensure alignment of divisional budgets with corporate investment strategy and funding requirements.
- Maintain accurate forecasting and reporting of capital expenditures.
Financial Reporting
- Manage the full financial cycle for major industrial projects during construction, including budget management, risk analysis, and financial reporting of Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cashflow Statement, Statement of Equity for internal consolidation.
- Oversee financial planning, monitoring, and reporting for projects ranging from $200M to $1B+.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial information for internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead the transition of our practices to the new ERP during the implementation.
Procurement Strategy and Cashflow Planning
- Lead the coordination of the procurement plan and cashflow planning to align contract execution with project objectives.
- Integrate procurement cycles and payment schedules with approved budgets and project timelines.
- Provide financial oversight and visibility on procurement impacts to support decision-making and risk management.
QUALIFICATIONS
- CPA accounting designation
EXPERIENCE
- 7-10 years of experience in project control, investment finance, or audit and financial control, ideally in an industrial or major construction environment
SKILLS AND ABILITY
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder influence skills
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and understanding of ERP systems (JD Edwards, SAP)
LANGUAGES
- Bilingual (French and English), both spoken and written.
Knowledge of English is required for this specific position as Kruger deals with partners across North America and the successful candidate will be required to communicate frequently with them.
