Job summary
Our client is a leading provider of custom‑engineered process‑equipment systems used across biotech, pharmaceutical, food, beverage, personal care and other advanced manufacturing sectors. They design, build, test and commission fully integrated stainless‑steel systems for high‑performance production environments. This role is ideal for a designer who enjoys turning engineering requirements into practical, buildable 3D models and supporting fabrication teams throughout construction. The Opportunity As a Mechanical Designer, you will develop detailed 3D models and fabrication drawings for custom process systems. Working from process designs, engineering sketches, P&IDs and specifications, you will produce the models, drawings and bills of material required to build equipment in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment. You’ll collaborate closely with process engineers, mechanical engineers, fabrication leads and skilled trades to ensure designs are accurate, buildable and aligned with project requirements. Key Responsibilities 3D Modelling & Detailed Design Interpret engineering sketches, P&IDs, specifications and client drawings. Develop detailed 3D models of modular process systems using SolidWorks. Use pipe‑routing and weldment tools to create accurate, fabrication‑ready designs. Prepare fabrication and assembly drawings for equipment, piping and support structures. Maintain accurate bills of material for purchasing, fabrication and project control. Create or revise AutoCAD drawings when required. Engineering & Constructability Perform or verify mechanical design calculations appropriate to the assignment. Support stress, strain and thermal analysis using SolidWorks Simulation when required. Review layouts for constructability, accessibility, serviceability and installation. Lead model reviews with engineers and fabrication leads, incorporating required changes. Apply sound design practices, applicable codes and project specifications. Fabrication Support & Design Control Provide timely technical support to engineers and fabrication trades. Coordinate design changes with engineering and project‑management teams. Visit the shop floor to confirm fit, resolve questions and ensure design intent is achieved. Maintain models, drawings and BOMs throughout revisions in accordance with quality standards. Capture lessons learned and improve modelling practices and standard details. What You Bring Mechanical Engineering Design Technology diploma, Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent experience. Strong SolidWorks 3D‑modelling skills, including pipe routing and weldments. Experience preparing fabrication drawings, assembly drawings and bills of material. Working knowledge of AutoCAD. Experience modelling sanitary or pharmaceutical piping is an asset. Ability to interpret P&IDs, engineering sketches and mechanical drawings. Practical understanding of fabrication methods, welding, formed metal and assembly. Experience with SolidWorks Simulation or mechanical analysis is an asset.
